Putting 215 back together

I was putting my 215 back together after a sc rebuild and was wondering what the 4-6 inch diameter plastic tube that attaches to the rear underside of the seat shroud is used for. I guess the other end, which is open, just drops somewhere into the engine bay. I can't figure out where it actually went. What is it for and do we really need? thanks

fresh air vent for the engine compartment, air is forced in from the vents through the seat. it goes from the left side to the right side rear next to the pump arch. ventilation is always a good thing including heat and fume removal.

Other design besides fresh air input is when boat is upside down it minimizes water intake.
