Payment: Seller is in another state. I’m not keen on bringing cash and they are not liking my bank check from my itty bitty credit union. I can think of a few other options but would love to hear what you guys have experience with.

Trailer Tags: Do you tow with the previous owner’s tags and mail them back? This is what the last guy I sold a boat to did. Is there a better way?

Insurance: Since the registration will change what do you use as an identifier. Sailboats have hull numbers. Do Sea Doo jet boats? Is there a VIN or serial number? Where would it be located?

Payment: Not sure what kind of money your talking about here, but a Bank Check is really the best way to go.

Trailer Tags: Pull the tags off, when your towing it home you might get pulled over but just show them your bill of sale dated for that day and they should send you on your merry way. (We dont have to tag in KS, so take my advise with a grain of salt)

Insurance: The Hull ID Number is located on a tag on the back right hand side of the boat. Any boat manufactured after 1979 should have this.

More Info

The payment will be around $10k. I did find that my mortage bank is in his area. Not sure if they will cash a check from another bank there - not sure if they count me as an account holder or not. Another option would be postal money orders.

Sorry, by tags I mean license plates. I can tow a MA trailer with NY plates and I think I should be ok.

Talking W/ US Boats about insurance it seems I can activate the policy via phone. Neat!

Temp Tags

In some states you can get temporary tags that are good for like 3 days. There is a small fee but will remove any issues of sending plates back or none. Just go down to DMV and ask or check on the web site.
