New gauge, malfunctioning

As luck would have it, I installed the new gauge on the 08 gtx 155 and had the mechanic do the mapping to the ecm this morning. Took the ski out this afternoon and realized the numeric part of the gauge isn't working. In other words, you can see the rpms and speed on the graph but numerically, they are blank. Same with the compass direction, fuel level indicator and water temp. The engine runs fine but the brand new seadoo gauge isn't working. In the section where the direction, compass is, I see various numbers or codes. They are "T" 508, 509, 510 and 511.

Fortunately, the seadoo dealer is willing to warrant the gauge if that's the problem and George the mechanic is (not) willing to re map in an effort to fix it.

Any idea what's going on? Few things are easy...

That sucks that it isn't working as it should. I know you spent good money on the cluster... Hopefully they solve it for you quickly, glad there will be no additional cost..

Your dealer is an idiot. Per my earlier post on this topic, this year cluster needs the profile programmed into it for your ski, THEN married to your ECU. He simply married it, which is why you are missing stuff an getting the T codes....

Got it..I think that's what the mechanic was saying when we spoke last night. Right or wrong, he seemed to think the profile would have already existed since it is a new seadoo gauge and is made for my for ski but obviously, it needs the profile prof and then the marrying. He is coming back tomorrow to fix it so I'm not going to complain, just happy he is standing behind his work. Thx for explaining.

Edit, he changed his mind, no longer willing to make it right wo charging me

Just FYI, the cluster you bought, 278000270 fits a lot of models from 2006-2009 as a replacement cluster. BRP figured that instead of having dealers stock a dozen or more part numbers that use the same basic cluster, they simply sell dealers a "blank" cluster, and have the dealer program in the proper profile software that is applicable for each model skis. Saves them inventory costs, but creates a nightmare for unsuspecting end users (as well as unsuspecting dealers, LOL)

Mechanic called today and he changed his mind, he is only going to stand behind it if i pay him to fix it. He said it wasnt his fault that the gauge was mot flashed by the online seadoo dealer that sold it to me. While i understand his view to some extent, i find it surprising that he would be unwilling to do the right thing and get it fixed. In hindsight, i should have taken it to my local dealer and paid them to do the mapping to the ecm bc they would have known to flash the profile and I would never have had this problem. Instead, i am paying twice plus the aggravation and at the same time, the mechanic loses too be I will never use him again and the referral I made to a friend has been withdrawn based on this experience so it is a lose lose circumstance.

I guess I am especially disappointed by he said all the right things the day the problem surfaced, I was very pleased by his reaction and determination to make it right, then to change his mind for no reason other than he said he can't afford to invest more time on it

Im sharing this in case anyone else can learn anything from this.

I think you need to identify this dealer and mechanic so Forum users know not to use them.

I want to think about this a little more. I did find him via a post on this site though he wasn't specifically being recommend for mechanic sacs, it was related to boat and seadoo parts.

Btw, I feel like coastaljoe, flying and typing. Helps pass the time, long day of travel. Been trying to get home all day

i have the same problem

hello, guys I have an 2008 seadoo rxt-x 255 just replace the cluster as previous had water inside, took it to the dealer to get programmed and not compass is not working t 245 come up, cluster shows 0 hours as well I argued with the dealer as I thought the hours are store in the ecu and not the cluster they state is the other way around, and are unable to fix my compass any one else here with the same problem or how did you guys fixed it? thanks

Like the other poster, you are working with a dealer that is an idiot. To be clear, hours are stored in both the ECU and the cluster. The dealer only married the cluster, he forgot (or doesn't know how) to program the right profile into the cluster for your ski.

For future reference for other people, if you have a 2006 -2009 high end model Sea Doo, (like RXP, RXT, GTX) you have one of two options when you have a bad cluster:

1. Get the cluster replaced by a competent dealer, and have them install it. (you cannot buy one yourself ...)

2. Buy a Candoopro system, buy the new cluster from Candoopro,(pre-programmed by them), install the cluster, then marry it to the ECM using the Candoopro system.

It is usually the same price for above two options. But #2 is much better, because then you have the Candoopro system to do all your own maintenance.
