Bought some diamond cut HydroTurf, and had it shipped to Snipe's house. He has most of the templates cut out of 1/4" plywood, and he cut the largest pieces for me. I drew up the template for the side pieces on the hatch and maile it to him, and he transferred it to 1/4" ply.

So far, all I got back from him is what you see, plus the one piece under the driver's feet. He is out of town and will cut the rest for me when he gets back.

Anyways, it looks GREAT!!!

But removing the glue from the old pieces has taken me about 4 hours and half a gallon of Goo-Gone, a quart of laquer thinner, and heaven knows how many rags. And I had to go back to the hardware store 4 times to replace my elbow-grease :reddevil:

Attached is a cellphone pic of the old stuff and my paper template for the side pieces, and a finished pic of the new stuff on the back end.

This stuff was purchased from HydroTurf online, and this is the diamond cut "blemished" material, at around $35 per sheet. Took 2 sheets to do all my boat. I paid a little extra for the 3M adhesive attached to the back. I find that it is easier to apply since you can line it all up first, then unpeel a corner, make sure it is still alligned, smack that corner down, the just peel the backing off while pushing down on the padding as you move from one corner to the opposite. Then it goes down the way you intend for it to, and you have a second chance to make sure it is where you want it before you smack it down.

Thanks guys. After all that work taking off the old glue, it sure feels good to get some compliments

What did you use to get the glue off?

I started with GooGone and a rag, but it evaporated before anything came loose (it was 96 degrees out, and I had a shop fan on me). Then I tried laquer thinner, Marvel Oil (which actually worked pretty good), used motor oil, gasoline :ack:, then found that the best was not chemical but mechanical. Good old Elbow Grease and a sharp scraper. So I bought more GooGone and paint-brushed it on in small 6" areas, and scraped the goo off. Did this 2X for each area and then the GooGone on a rag worked, then final wipe down 2X with lacquer thinner to clean it up.

Application of the Turf was SIMPLE compared to removal of the glue. Probably took me less than 10 minutes to slap those suckers down.

Looks good.

I paid almost $300 for the kit I used on my boat (The most expensive part of my project) ... but it was worth it. The contrast in colors makes the boat visually better... and it helps hide defects, and stains in the hull.:hurray:

How much is this stuff again? I was thinking of adding a strip on the floor....

Also I have to say Dr Honda's bimini looks funny. I just don't see Seadoos with bimini's.....

The Challenger purple is on sale right noe for about $35 bucks a sheet. You need two sheets to do your entire boat "stock". Scooper did a mod on his hatch so it might be 3 sheets to get the complete set but he's eliminating the vertical pieces, so we should have plenty to finish what he wants.

The turf looks awesome scooper! I'll have the rest to you soon!

Looks good, nice job. The turf does make a huge difference in visuals for the boat. Best investment for me so far. Quiets it down a bit and makes for a more enjoyable ride especially barefoot.

I need to redo my hydroturf. That looks awesome!! Can you PM me where you got it. I was looking at getting it on ebay, and no one has it for my old jet ski lol and then someone was going to sell me a set for $250 which sounds alot for just a jet ski, and i have the old hydroturf to make the templates. it would help me alot!!! :)

Finally got time to put the rest in...

I should have cleaned that greasy hand print off the seat before I took the picture...:ack:

I wonder if the dark green hydro-turf matches the dark green on the boat, I just can't see myself putting the purple down.

The purple looks better in real life than it does in pictures (Seadoosnipe said the same thing when he took pics of his). It isn't the same color as the stock purple that came off.

Call up hydroturf and ask for a 3" sample. I bet they would mail you a scrap of green so you can see it in real life and match it up.

Definitely. They sent me 3 samples in 2 different patterns to help me out. And it does make a world of difference having this stuff down. I've Seadoo owners with a lot newer boats ask about where I picked up such a good looking kit for it.

They are great about samples. I got like 8 samples before I ordered. Then when i ordered my set, I asked if they could send an extra piece 18" x 8" and I offered to pay for it. When I got the stuff in the mail, they included a scrap piece that was even bigger for free. Great company to work with.

Scooper, Great job. I need a bit of additional info please. Did you only need 2 sheets to do the back platform and the hatch, or was that enough to do the floors in interior also? I guess I'm asking how big each sheet is.

Also, for what it's worth, Turpentine, (yes, the real stuff), worked great as a solvent for the old glue. Apply liberally and the glue will soften in a few minutes, then carefully use a razor blade to scrape off lots of gooey glue. I imagine laquer thinner did the same but is more expensive. I did not need to use Goo Gone if I gave it a final Turpentine wipedown and then removed Turpentine residue with Purple Power.

Anyway, I wanna Hydroturf my engine hatch, and floors, so I'm tryin' to get an idea of how much to order.
Thanks

Oh, by the way, here's a list of solvents that DO NOT work:
Acetone, Brake cleaner, gasoline, Tar and Bug Remover, Carb cleaner, rubbing alcohol, Engine starting spray, wheel/brake dust cleaner, Purple Power, (in my opinion Goo Gone doesn't work either - sorry!).

There is a diy from seadoosnipe for buying sheets of HT and installing.
Basically paper cutout of design---->piece of wood-----outline for HT
I would suggest at least opt for the 3m tape to make install easier and w/o mess.
