Longer Ladder?

Irish, if you have a minute would you be able to take three measurements of your ladder? I have attached a picture of the three areas. However, the middle measure 12.25 I need it to be inbetween the upper pipes not the lower pipes.

Thanks

Eddie

I won't be home again til 23rd I can do it then for you.

Replacing one step ladder with a two step ladder

I found a 1997 Challenger 1800 on craigslists being parted out. Got the measurements for both boats. 1 3/8" between bolts forward to aft. 10 1/4" from Port inner bolt to STBD inner bolt and 16 1/2" between Port outer bolt and STBD outer bolt. With that the ladder bolted right one.

Irish, thanks for the offer to measure, but I am set now.

Do you have the link to the boat being parted out? Was there anything good on it?

The first link is to the boat. The guy's name is George and he seems to be pretty straight forward. They guy at the shop, young kid said that when they got the boat the computer said 17hrs, but the real owner just left the boat out in the weather and it rotted the outside. When I got there the engines had been pulled, but I think he still has them. The boat looked bad in the sense it had rotted all on the outside.

This link shows more of his stuff

His number is 407-221-7174, put that in the Orlando craigslist and more of his stuff comes up.

Note, I got the ladder and hardware for $50, no haggling, that was his price.

How does Fiberglass rot on the outside?

It's a shame that people buy a good boat/ski/car/whatever and then just lets it sit and rot out.

Yeah, you're prolly right that it's the same mount. It is weird that sd would have 2 different mounts and ladders manufactured (maybe because I have the Challenger X20). No biggie though, I won't have to drill/fill since I can use the big mounts I have now with the straight arm ladder they sent me. Of course they charged me an xtra $50 for straight arm ladder, which is BS! I wanted to have the extra 4-5 inches that the curved ladders allows for. I'll just return the curved one from WL when you confirm you have small mount. Thanks for your help w/this and have a good Turkey day.

igneous - What straight-arm 2-step ladder did you get? Did you get the UP-2E from Windline or did you find another one that fit your existing mounts?

I ended up gettin the 2E unit, since I wanted to use existing holes that are glassed-in.
It's tight and the rubber catch is just long enough to reach peg.

I don't see the "2E" in the Windline product line up.

if I were to use the UP-2 on an X-20, you think I will have to replace the mounts then Igneous? Hmm.

I had to call windline and they said they don't keep the E ladder in stock and have to "build" one....at a premium price of course. I went that route instead of hassling with installing new mounts.

After a few months before pulling my boat out, I finally got a call into Windline and orderd my UP-2E. The gal on the phone, Mandy, was very helpful and recognized what I was looking for. It's not the cheapest ladder, but I think I will be the hero with the family this summer having that extra step.

I will post some pics as soon as I have it installed next week.

Thanks for your help this spring!

biffdotorg, did you ever get the ladder? Im thinking of calling them as well and geting one made, but Id like to know how it went for you.

Thanks
JL

You bet. It was an exact replacement for the original ladder on my X20. As others have said, the X20 has a straight ladder, not the curved end.

It just took me a bit to figure out how to knock out the crimped ends and it worked great.

OK great, Ill call and order the UP2E also then. I have an 02 X-20 with the straight ladder. Besides the fact that its difficult to use, its also hard to pull out, like it gets stuck and you have to work it out from side to side.

Actually, Biffdotorg, I think I got the hydroturf help from pics of yours on a different website or forum or something last season, so thanks for that! Ill post some pics today maybe.

That's very cool. I posted a video of my hydro turf install, and posted pics of my depthfinder install as well. This was so easy to install, I never even took out the camera!

I did have to pull the mounts down, and pop the pins to get it installed. This was nothing even close to rocket science.

I too had the issue of the ladder not sliding very well. I can only assume the tubes must have gotten a bit bent or just bent enough that they didn't want to slide real well. Either way, this will be a nice upgrade.

My next project may be a trolling motor on the bow. I found a way to mount the Minn-Kota quick release plate parallel with the water. And it only leaves a small rounded-off "puck" on the bow when removed. That sounds like the perfect way to turn this into a fish-ski with minimal intrusion in Ski-mode.

More to come....

Wow awesome! Whatd be nice now is some handles that you could grab while climbing up the tallest swim platform ever! Did you have to apply any sort of sealant to reapply the mounts? Im not very mechanically inclined, I feel sorry for my boat...

What do Cobra fins do? Better handling Im assuming

Youre boat looks awesome, Ill get some pics up of mine

There are actually three handles on the back, so I think most should be fine with that. One to either side of the ladder and one in the middle above the ladder.

Since the threads are embedded in the fiberglass, I just tipped each screw with silicone caulk. Since that deck hardly ever hits the water, it's just being careful.

The Cobra Jet Steering fins help with handling quite a bit. It's most noticable off power as we all know these boats handle like crap without thrust. I would say these help Yamaha jets more than the Seadoo boats. My wife would say they are worth the investment, that's all that matters.

I tell you what, I wasn't sure if one more rung would help at all until this past weekend. We got the boat in the water finally, and that extras step was great! it makes a world of difference for us fat guys!

If you are debating it, just do it. A great improvement, and it should have been on there to begin with.

Already one step ahead of you sir! Just got home from a weekend in Kansas City and my new UP2E was on my doorstep! Now i just need to put it on... I can already tell its going to be 1000% better

I have to agree, big improvement over one-step kiddie ladder. I can't believe the dopes at Seadont would even consider using anything less than a 2 step ladder. To help getting out, I grab the handle rope and loop it around the pull up pole--it has about 10' of straight line, then staggered loops for holding onto behind boat when partying. I can grab the rope and stand up getting out...don't have to bend over to grab the closeby handles. I used this method with the one step and it worked fine too, but the ladies had trouble pulling themselves out and prolly got tired of me 'handling' their asses while helping them up. Maybe I should go back to the 1 step!!
