Is it possible (or crazy) to use a 95 GTX engine in a 2001 GTX?

Anybody ever used an older engine in a newer hull. Don't need big power just ride for fun. I know it would be a hassle but just asking. 01 Engine is scrap.

What's wrong w/ the 2001 motor? You can have it rebuilt with a 1-2 yr no fault warranty.

Check it out first.

Bought this 01 at auction engine was completely disassembled with crank and other parts missing. 95 runs strong but hull damaged so just got me wondering.

If the old motor was also the same size as the 95, then it's possible w/o a lot of trouble..ie fiberglass remolding.

What sizes are they?

the 01 was a 951 engine.

It can be done, but it will be A LOT of work since the mounts aren't even close. AND... you will need all the electrical parts from the 95. SO... as buddy said... it would be easier/cheaper to just fix the 951.

The 2001 GTX has a 951. It's gonna take alot of fabrication in order to get that 657 to work.

Sorry Doc. we were typing at the same time.

Thanks everyone. I knew that would be the way to go but hoped I could use my old engine. Now does anybody have a good 951 for a 01? Thanks again

I do, but it's my backup engine... got a '98 GTX LTD w/a blown everything for $400, and parted it out, keeping the 951 core, had it rebuilt and now it's ready to drop in any 951 ski.

There are a bunch on eBay, or see what parts your missing and send it in for a 1-2 year no fault.

I paid $800 for a '99 w/a blown engine (and unknown to me destroyed starter) last November. I had the engine rebuilt, and now it works great.

I hate it when people who don't know what they are doing take something apart and lose the parts / don't care. If you don't know what your doing, hey, that's fine, but at least put everything in the same box or something!

the '98 I bought, had a blown engine, rear piston was just... TOAST, and the rod was just whoa. but they took the rear electrical box apart (WHY?!) and they had the head off, but the pipe was still on it, as were the carbs. You could tell they had no idea how to actually take this thing apart...

Well,.... there's your problem...
