Insurance

Just got quoted at $425 to insure a 1995 seadoo xp, including theft, fire, and 1 million liability. The insurance company is called Marine Expert. I wasn't able to just get the liability which would probably lower it. Whats everybody else paying, is this really high or what??

I pay $128 for the 96 GTX with AAA. full coverage....but this is in the USA and you are in Canada.
That makes a big difference.

I just got quoted $550 per year, full coverage for a 1997 GS from Beacon. Friggin ridiculous, anyone know of cheaper insurance in BC?

I'm paying about $170 per year through State Farm. That is JUST liability though, which is all I wanted...

You can add you PWC's or boats as a rider under your house insurance. Usually much cheaper that way and you can get full coverage or simply liability.

I think that varies from company to company. I inquired about that and State Farm told me they didn't offer such a thing....

I'm surprised to hear that. That's how all the folks I know do it. I'm with primmum, cost me around $500 for the year for a 98 challenger 1800 with a replacement cost of 12,000 and the trailer with a replacement cost of 3,000. crappy thing is is that they stop the comprehensive portion after the boat is 15 years old, if I remember right.

I have Traverlers for home and they wouldnt do that either. I have BoatUS and pay 400 a year. I have a very nice plan though. 8500 agreed value on a 14 year old boat and 1 million in liability coverage.

Just re-read my policy: the agreed value on the boat is 9 grand and 2 grand for the trailer. No idea where I came up with the numbers for my earlier post. Sorry. I paid a little extra for a bump up in liability to $2 million. I wonder, is there a Canadian company that offers boat insurance exclusively?

RFoster:

I was just snooping your profile, do you get a discount due to your profession? My wife is a cop and I'm a paramedic so we get a small discount from out insurance carrier. Just curious how it works there.

lol., the Americain posts in here...REALLY rub it in.

I'm with NautiMax (Aviva Elite), 1Mill Liab.$7K replacement value., $500 deduct., $330.48 tax-in., tlr might be INSIDE that $7K quote.

From what I was told., they're the only ones who'd do my boat. Maybe boats are different than PWC.

If someone has a lower price on a BOAT...and is in CANADA..(hehe), could you please share with whom? I have 10days to renew my policy curiously.

The liability portion of my policy is listed as $25 premium only. I wonder if I wanted ONLY liability...would that be all I'd pay? You may want to call them and enquire. Sure beats $170.

I'm not sure how you're getting a 1Mil liability policy for $25 per year. Liability is always the highest cost of any policy. Something isn't right there...

While that seems cheap, my policy also shows that liability is less expensive than comprehensive. I wonder if he meant $25 a month?

as mentioned, my policy is up for renewal., so I reached over on my shelf and read it off the itemized sheet.

How I roll, I guess :).

I'm with Nationwide. I deal with them directly with no agent. My 2 94 xp's and 2 95 Xp's are 109.00 a piece while my 2011 GTI SE !55 is 158.00. Thats full coverage on all with a 500.00 Ded. with 500/500/500. I get the best pricing though them since I have ton's of toys and spent just short of 8,000 keeping them all insured.

Yes they all run though I don't drive them all. My Rod is a 32 Dodge coupe which is a never ending project.

I eventually settled on Premier Marine - and swallowed hard. The others I looked at were around the $600 mark per year (such as Beacon)
for a ski I put down at a $3000 value (!) - I paid $350 with $1m liability and that's with a $50 discount for having operated a PWC for more
than 3 years. I only wanted liability - not possible - so that covers fire and theft too but only if the machines are locked up in a garage. The side of the house chained sideways to Sunday and behind a fence doesn't matter. But the wording in Premier's policy is pretty good - as long as you're not renting them out and the seadoo is operated by someone you have given permission to use them you're covered. Pretty straightforward. The others had quite a few loopholes in them (I'm an insurance agent but not a General Insurance Agent that sells this stuff but I am familiar with policy language and "exclusions". You are also given a set of parameters as to where you can ride...!

No matter what you get in Canada it's a rip-off. I want it only for 6 months - not possible - you have to take it for a year. You can't cancel it half way through - no partial refund. Try that anyway and they won't insure you the following year.

I have 2 machines and I figured $700 for the year gave me the peace of mind regarding the liability. I couldn't care much about the
fire and theft. If it was just me and the wife riding I'd probably not do it but I have my kids riding periodically and the odd friend so
that is why i did it. It sucks.

y[SUB]ou guys with $1M liability on just your skis, might want to do a price comparison on getting a seperate umbrella policy for liability so you are coverd across the board.[/SUB]
