Impeller Tightening

So my last impeller got tore up along with the wear ring the instead of ordering a impeller removal tool i whipped out the trusty vice grips and got the job done. the new impeller just got here although i dont want to tear it up with the previous method. so does it have to be torqued to the exact lb or does as tight as i can get it work or can i make a homeade tool.

buy the impeller/pto tool its only like 10 bucks on ebay. its very worth it
