not sure where to start looking first. Just bought this today. good end of season find. buyer didn't have it in the water this year and it doesn't do anything when the key is in... no beeps...doesn't turn over when I press the start button... Ive got nothing . Anyone got a place to start? the no beep thing has me puzzled.....

I can assume you have a fresh battery?
hit the start button 5 times with no key on the post does anything happen?
If not, check connections, and fuses. Power is not getting to the MPEM or MPEM is bad.
If it does beep, or the gauges move (beepers are pretty flakey) then its not reading the key. usually a bad post but it can be other things.

If you are CERTAIN the battery is good, jump the solenoid. This will tell you good information. If it cranks you have a good battery and connections and a good starter. If it does not crank then you need to do some testing.

I bought the seadoo with another jetski a 2001 Yamaha gp800... both didn't have batteries, so I took my battery from my 97 and put it in the yami....... the Yamaha turns over but doesn't start (but that's a different forum...lol) ... I did buy a fresh battery earlier this year but never installed it in anything... I think ill put the acid in it and let it charge overnight and install it in the seadoo tomorrow and see where that leads me....that way I can rule out the battery anyway... ill do what you guys suggested and ill keep you guys posted tomorrow

No that battery should be fine. Do what I asked and also jump the solenoid. Make sure any small wires with eyelets on the solenoid are on the same side as the big wire connected to the battery.
Yep,, that is the solenoid..
But,, You need to do a MAJOR cleaning of connections based on the pictures.
I would STRONGLY recommend doing the terminal cleaning first.
One of the most common issues is a poor battery or a poor cable connection. So, clean all the terminals including the large red wire going to teh starter and the ground wires going to the block and battery. The ground by the starter is NO FUN but is crucial.

Coat those terminals with dialectic grease during reassembly, after wire brushing the scale off.
Ok guys heres what ive done so far..brand new battery, charged correctly, 12.7 volts..... cleaned and dieelectric grease all those crappy fittings (minus the starter because of the pita factor but read on) jumped the solenoid and I hear the starter engage but I get nervous jumping solenoids, the starter engages but I cant (or im just jumpy) keep the screw driver on the lugs long enough to turn the engine over...... what does this tell us and whats the next step?

If you are certain about the battery then placing something metal and fairly heavy (as in not a tiny screw driver for example) should work the starter.
Use a set if pliers where there is some decent metal to them.
The starter should operate and engage without bouncing in and out.

Or if you are super jumpy, use a set of jumper cables. It is going to spark, but it won't hurt you unless a spark gets in your eye. 
alright I got brave... held the screw driver on the lugs and it turned over many time...tried choking it to start it but no go... took the plugs out and they were wet so I cleaned them off and sanded the bottom of the plugs for a good spark.... with the plugs out I turned over the motor... there was no spark at the plugs

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this well known fact yet but, make sure not to connect any power sources which might exceed 14volts directly to your ski or else the MPEM computer could be damaged. This basically means don't try to charge your battery while it's connected to the ski, or connect jumper cables to the ski from your car, especially if the car is running.
The MPEM is extremely voltage sensitive, and can be unforgiving if it's max voltage is exceeded.

There is supposed to be another black wire comming out of the top of the box that connects to the battery negative.
here might be a problem... checked the front fuses like previously mentioned and from the bottom up goes 15a, 5a, 15a, 5a... the first 5a from the bottom was blown. I replaced it and when I reconnected the neg on the battery it popped...what does this fuse go to and what might be the problem?
