I hope this will do the job (Sea-Doo stand)

Fall is just around the corner and I absolutely wanted to have my GTI inside the heated garage for the winter. But the trailer is really too long to fit in there along with my old car and ATV and snowblower!

So I came up with this idea.

1. 2x 4x4x10 cut in 54 inches pieces.

2. 1x 2x4 cut in 2 feet pieces (this thing is 24 inches wide).

3. 4x coasters (wheels) with breaking mechanism that can support at least 220 pounds each (with a rectangular plate that fits under the 4x4). So basically, this stand should support 900+ pounds (mine is about 700 pounds with all liquids).

4. 16 lag screws 2 inches long

5. a box of 4 inches screws (exterior deck screws). I made some pre-holes before screwing so that the screws can't be seen.

6. Piece of waterproof carpet, 1 foot by 8 (the kind that goes outside on docks and decks).

Assembled the thing and voila! Look at it roll (like the TV in Back to the Future)!

Hope it will do the job. I tested it on shore with the ski before putting the wheels on and it was fitting good on it. If I had a 4-tec, I would have probably made it a bit longer (like 60 inches).

I was told that this thing new, made with metal ans coasters and a small piece of wood and carpet, cost about 350$ CDN + taxes, I checked with a BRP dealer and with a local boat person (around 400$ with taxes included). Total cost here: less than 150.00$ (coasters were about 25$ each, this is the main cost). The rest is wood and screws and carpet (around 50$).

Maybe I will start learning mechanics after all!

Did you buy all these parts locally? The coasters imparticular. Just curious I have only seen coasters at harbor freight and I have used them for small projects like on my HF press etc but this is a great idea! That looks perfect and I could really use something like this if I have to bring my ski home this winter!

I presume you are just lifting the sea doo off the trailor and onto this thing with enough people ..? Sorry for the noob question I was always curious about that lol! Is the gti a 2 seater or 3 seater? Just curious as I think I am going to try this out in a couple weeks for my gtx/3 seater. Just curious on measurements as I wont have access to wood cutting tools but I can just have the cuts made when I purchase it :)

Thanks for sharing by the way!

In fact, I may just pull on the Sea-Doo and slide it onto the carriage using a little elbow grease. When comes Spring, I intend just to winch it back onto the trailer (the coasters have very solid brakes).

I found the coasters at the local hardware store. They had plenty of sizes so I took the ones that would support the weight of my ski + 200 pounds.

Looks good and solid, i went the PVC route.
After this picture i added carpet to the pipes so i can slide the ski on and off.

Hey Benji, looks very nice, better get working on a second one for the new 4-TEC.

Other than for somewhat better for working on (with the low height) , I made mine at the exact height of the trailer. Makes getting off and on the cart much easier.

Of course I have a sling I can use so that helps a lot removing but I don't use the sling to return the seadoo to the trailer. Trying to do that at the low height is
a lot tougher.

Some guys bolt a winch to the back wall of the garage. If the stand is the same height as the trailer no muscle really needed.

Yep that was kind of my point. As you said with the setup you mention you can do it yourself rather easy. Bringing it up from the floor is tougher. The cranks on the trailer
are not really geared to move weight with that kind of stress on it. Doable but...

I have found that if you use some spray silicone on the carpet, the skis will slide on and of with very little effort.

A little visual on just how little effort ... turned my back and look what happened: yep, slides just great with the silicone ... gotta use the tie-downs even on the cart. Good thing it was the $100 SeaDoo, but no damage anyway, it was a slow-motion event.

Yep, I almost did the same thing when I was removing a GSX from a trailer. Thanks goodness, I had the bow strap hooked, just not tight. Still slid about 12". :willy_nilly:

I don't think mine can flip because the wheels are almost at each end (and they each have strong brakes). I believe the cart will be a bit lower than the ski but not by too much.

I was also thinking of using my ATV winch to pull the ski onto the cart but I am really not sure that the back hook (the ski hook) is appropriate for that.

One thing is certain, no 4-tec this fall! I am broke of all that spending this summer (renovations and building the garage).

Benji.

Back hook of the ski is totally strong enough. I winch mine onto the stands from the rear hook all the time.

hahahahahaahh RodInEscondido look at the name of his jpeg on that pic.. "cartfail1a.jpeg" gotta love it!

actually, as suke said, I wanted to switch trailers and put my hx on the good trailer and the blown spx on the $h!t trailer, so I just dumped the spx by putting a blanket on the ground (you guys all seem to have nice concrete rollable surfaces...here next to the water, its all shell and grasss, as you get an insurance discount from flood insurance with a shell/gravel absorbable surface) then I slowly slid the spx as far back as possible, then slowly lifted the tongue, once the rear of the ski touched the blanket, I slowly slid the trailer out from under it. then I lined both trailers back to back and just used the rear tow hook and slid the hx onto the good trailer.. I did this the night before I was taking the hx out, then the next day I just launched it facing "backward, and when I came back in, just hooked it up normally. to get the spx off the ground and onto the crap trailer, I pulled the winch strap really far out, hooked it to the spx, lifted the trailer on a slight angle while I cranked just enough to get the front of the ski on the bunks, then as I cranked and the ski moved forward, gravity took effect and the trailer began its "descent" back to earth.
little complicated but wasn't bad...would've made it a HELL of a lot easier if I had a spare BENJI cart.

Then I will back-up my ATV in the back of the garage, then place the cart in front of it, then backup the trailer just in from of the cart and then pull the Sea-Doo with the winch! This should be easy!

Benji.
