I have a non dess 95 gtx and water tested it for the first time today. Always when i put the key on out of water i got no beeps which i thought was common for non dess. Well after riding for about 10 minutes I was coming in to dock and I pulled the key to stop and when i did it beeped maybe 4 or 5 times? ever since when i put the key back on it beeps twice. Is everything all right? Also none of my gauges work so i dont know if its temperature or battery but I'll look into the gauges tomorrow.
I know the beeps are common but I tried searching but not much luck

Next time that you run it, after a few minutes put your hand on the motor. It should be warm but not hot enough that you can't leave it there for a bit.

You can test the beeper by pulling the wire of the heat sensor off and then grounding it somewhere(with a extra piece of wire) while engine is running. It should beep at that point.

Pull the temperature sending wire off the sensor in the head, & see if it goes away. Could have a bad sensor, or possibly a short in the wire somewhere. also, if you tap the start button, it will power up the electronics for 20-30 seconds. Ground out the temp sender wire during that time & see if the sounder screams while its grounded. It should. Like you mentioned, beeps when installing the lanyard where only for the 96+ DSS systems.

What do i do if its too hot?

Check your cooling system, lose, missing or blocked hose, missing o-rings in pump. Are you sure of the year, 2 beeps is a DESS wake up ok signal?

DESS was a dealer option with an add-on kit back in the day, but its pretty uncommon. if there is a button sticking out of the lanyard post, it is NOT a DESS ski. if there is a metal ring around the top and a metal dot in the middle, it is a DESS ski. post some pictures of the lanyard post, or take a video of the beeping if you can.
