I just made an offer on a pair of 1998 GSX Limiteds.
135 hr on one. And 118 hr on the other.
Comes with promark trailer, tuff box and 1 life jacket and covers (1 is torn a bit)
Very good condition, paint needs buffing a little for wear.
Do you think $3000 is a good deal if they run great. (1 gas gauge doesnt work) (1 VTS is stuck in neutral position) other than that they are great!
So what do you think?

Thanks

If they only have minor issues... yes $3k is a great deal.

Do a compression check on both. (Hold the throttle open, and ground the spark plug wires) 150 is a good engine... 130 is getting ready for a top-end. (But will run)

My god I wish we could get deals like that up here ... This side of the 49th, you'd be paying 3Gs for those with both them having blown engines.

You want to make an easy g note let me know i'd take em' for 4 all day long.

sounds good, I paid $3300 for a '96 GSX and '97 GSX both with 80 hours, plus trailer and 2 covers, both running good 3 yrs ago

one has 160/160 compression the other is 158/160.
they seem to run real strong. unless the speedo is waay off, when i took it out fairly calm water at 60-65 my eyes were watering but it bumped higher i know.
also they have been having maintenance done here at a local shop. the tech there gave me the heads up on them as a good deal!

It's not a good deal, it's a great deal. The fuel gauge problem is probably just the float. The VTS not a biggie either.

He don't even need to take them to the other side of the 49th. He can keep them right here in Alabama and I'll give him that extra G note! Great deal for sure.

Run Like Hell!! I have worked on many jet skis and have found the 951 motor to be a nightmare!!!!! Very fast ton of power. Soon you will be blowing the 15 amp fuse in the back. The stator either goes or gets so much metal in it from the starter that it collects and grounds out the stator. sometimes the metal is big enough to ruin the stator and they are not cheap even used on E-bay. My sons group of kids have 5 of these. All but one have had the same problem.. I have 4 bad stators in my garage!!!!! SELL THEM FAST before you spend all your time working on them or your money getting them fixed!!! They look and run awesome..................when running! Please heed this warning!!!! This is NO exaggeration at all!!!!!!!!!!

I found them on ebay for about 3x what my Harley stator costs. I can live with that, we buy them to ride them, same thing folks say about buying a harley (they breakdown to much). if i have to pay $125 or so for a stator once a season i will. Or until i save enough to get some new (2006 or newer) bikes. I know some people who have these and yes some have trouble and some have nothing but good luck with them, they arent ALL doomed to this fate. hopefully mine are good, i own them now, and all the maintenance was done here at a shop locally and the tech said they were great bikes for the price!

I hope the best for you. I got my 1999 GSX for 1900 dollars. Absoultely fast and beautiful. Not sure if you do the work yourself or not but the two seaters with the 951 in them are very hard to work on with the small space allowed. Our local marinas either wont work on them or charge an amount so high you would be into the purchase price the second time. Actually I was giving this more thought and all the problems were with the 99 machines. My sons friend with the 98 had no problems. I hope for you maybe thats the difference! I have an 1997 Yamaha 760 Venture pwc. Brought back from the dead never a problem and the kids pull tubes with it all the time. We sound similar, I have a Harley 06 custom sportster with the 1200 screamin eagle kit in it, love it. The only thing I hate about you guys is our summer last about two days and yours seems to be all year! I guess thats why I am so apprehensive of these machines. We have a small window to ride and dont want to fix them in the summer! Take care and good luck!

Ha, i ride all year long......both of them! lol.
screamin eagle is the way to go! nice choice and the sportster is one of the fastest Harleys right out of the box.
ride safe brother! ed

Thanks, the Sportster is great for me. Im an old dirt bike guy and your Harley is a little big for me. I will say my prayers for the GSX. When mine was running it was faster than my friends brand new four stroke Seadoo! I forgot what model, it was blue but he was pissed

The picture you posted shows 1999 GSX Limiteds, not 98. The 1998 GSX Limited were all red (top and bottom) and had a purple seat, different graphics, etc.

You bought a pair of 1999 GSX Limiteds. The last 2 digits of you HIN (Hull Identification Number) denote the year of production. Yours will have 99 as your last two digits.

sure enough Sir. i went out and looked and the numbers end in 99!
thanks for your keen observation!
ride safe........................ed
