I have a hero 3 silver and love it. I couldn't justify the black. I watched a video on YouTube that I think the guy was deaf? And he uses multiple ones for different scenarios. If I can find it I'll post it.
Best buy has a bunch if GoPro accessories on sale right now. I was texting link to CReynolds this morning. I'll be getting a few extra batteries, they're almost half price. I have several mounts, the floatie back door(also 1/2 price), all types of brackets and we also got the fetch. That's the dog harness. Lol, yes my Boston terriers GoPro.

They are all good. Each level up has its perks, but you may not need them. I bought the Hero 4 Black as I use it to scuba dive and I wanted the 1080 option. Ic not for that, I'd been fine with a lower model of the Hero 4 or the 3.
As far as mounts go, you can NOT beat Ram Mounts. A bit pricey but they are great. If you get it with the ball mount, you can go from machine to machine easily. Just buy more ball mount bases. You put one on whatever you want to mount the GoPro on. I have one on my skis, my bike and my motor cycle. Use the same upper mount on each, just clamp it onto the ball that is on the machine..

No, still $60. Trust me, it's totally worth it, it's not a POS. Watching my dogs run around is funny and I've only used it once so far. To ease the cost pain, I gave it to my daughter and dogs for Christmas. So that's like 3 $20 gifts, lol. Just keep checking Best Buy, I got ours at target on our red card, 5% discount.

Did you get the Hero3 Silver or the Hero3+ silver? I have just the Hero3 Silver. My wife got it at BJ's wholesale for my birthday. I want to say it was like $229 maybe but it came with the "frame" which is $40 all by itself at that time the 3+ silver was $299. No matter what you got you're gonna love it. My kids love it, I just mounted it to my sons snowboard helmet for last Sunday, I have yet to watch his fails on the slide box, LOL. I also Gopro'd my daughter when she learned to ride a bike.

Apparently Amazon is competition these days. I get it....but I dont.

I haven't been in a best buy in years. Over priced, have to pay sales tax. Amazon sometimes don't have to pay sales tax and always cheaper... Not to mention with Prime it's here free in two days. Or $3.99 next day. It would cost me more to drive to the store

That's kindof been the story of my purchase with it so far, not a lot of use. Going somewhere warm around March, maybe use it at a beach doing some scuba or something. I got the headband mount

I have the gopro hero 3 black. I want the 4 now for the 1080. It has more fps
I'm thinking about buying that black out case. I was checking it out tonight at Best Buy and it looks wicked. You can run the touch bacpac with it and still be waterproof, but to a very short distance. It would also look good on my matte black snowboard helmet.

It should say in the manual. I cant tell you the rate but the memory card has to be able to transfer data at a certain speed or it won't record in hi def. I actually have the hero 2 and Id put it side by side with any go pro out there right now. It records in 1080 but the FPS is just a little slower. I don't usually go super slow mo so its a not a huge deal. Ive had it for 3 years now and its never let me down. I have mounts for it attached to my snowboard, my dirtbike helmet, all of my skis, my wheeler, and even on my cummins. It will do anything you want and more. The only thing I would say is deffinitly purchase your accessories online. I got 3 chinese batteries off ebay for like 17$. They last just as long as the official go pro battery. And I got an accesory kit for christmas this year from my brother in law that has 60 some accesories and he only paid 26$. Have fun theyre a sweet toy.
Thanks guys for all the info. I have hero three plus black with back pac. Here's my two cents. Great camera lots of fun. Takes time to learn but you tube helps. If you just sit around the house you don't need it. In the future we will all have tiny cameras pinned to our shirts including big brother. Then under our skin in order to track thieves and kidnappers they will say. Good or bad Apple will do it and we will all say I remember when Apple was $109. Share. If only I had bought it then. Lol
Card for the Hero 4 Black has to be a level 10. Before I bought a GoPro I didn't know there were different levels.

When I sold my ski I left the Hero2 on the handlebar for the new owner, after collecting a ridiculous amount of unedited ride footage I decided to just not bother for a while, and it is a good excuse to upgrade when i'm ready.

I have the 3+ Black. I got it as a gift but use it quite a bit. I can't seem to get "interesting" sea doo footage to be honest. I tried, there just isn't too much that looks awesome when I am riding around. Perhaps I am doing it wrong.
My number 1 accessory is extra batteries and charger, followed by LCD back pack. Being able to set the aim and change settings quickly is nice, specifically if I don't want to pull my iphone out.
I have a giant camera case (from the days of 35mm) that holds all my accessories and such.
I am currently using a RAM mount, adhesive mount and suction cup with adhesive tethers for my sea doo activities.
Lets see some good sea doo footage, I am sure it exists!
