Hi Guys,

First... sorry that I've been absent over the past week or so. I've been hung up with some personal issues.

Anyway.....

Yesterday, I decided to offically put my SeaDoo's to bed for the winter. Everything went as it should... but as I started looking around... I found the the hose clamps I used on my fuel system were rusting!! They were suposed to be stainless, and from what I could tell... the band was, but the top with the screw in it was not. Also... I found a couple of them that had broken !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks as if when they were pressed together, the band got fractured. I found 3 right away that were broke... but I decided that I will need to change all 18 of them. (SOB)

The clamps in question were house brand "Auto Zone" clamps. These have been on my XP for only 3 or 4 months... and they all need replaced. SO... if you did a tempo hose replacement this year... and you bought "House Branded" clamps... make sure you give them a good looking over.

The bad side of this is that I did a few other skis this year. Now I'm waiting for the phone call saying... "These clamps suck."

Can you get those hose clams on the half shell?

I know you're the professional here, and believe me I have always valued your opinion, but I have always used quality cable ties, and they don't rust. I did my 96GTI three years ago, and the ties are all holding tight. I did use american made Panduit brand ties.

Doc, Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep a lookout on mine.
Hope all your issues went well.

I'm working though it. Seems some medication I was talking was pushing me into depression. (not fun)

LOL !!! Ummm... yes, I guess they can come that way. But they will be very crunchy.

I have no issues with good quality wire ties. I don't recommend them... but they are fine.

I'm with SeaDooLou on the quality cable ties. I've been using them for years. They don't corrode. They don't dig into the hose or come loose over time. Yamaha has used them instead of clamps for years and they don't have problems.

That really sucks to have to swap them all out again. Im fine with the wire ties on oil lines but the fireman part of me is nervous to use them on fuel lines. I plan on swapping out some fuel lines over the winter, so ill make sure to get some good quality clamps.

Good to see your back

Yea, I learned my lesson with the Autozone so called stainless clamps awhile back. Ace hardware has "real" stainless clamps but they're kinda pricey. I'm sure they can be bought cheaper somewhere else.

yea, well there was a hose clamp right where my carbon ring met the accordian boot, where that fine seam is..(was like that when I bought it)...
So I put all my motor mounts in, aligned the motor, fired it up, took off stronger than it ever did, slid the seat back to check everything, and god a GOD D*MN PISS STREAM shootin straight up into my eye! seems that the hose clamp dug into seam, made the TINIEST little chunk/nick in it, and now its leaking all over!...back to the drawing board...

stainless clams

similar to my findings with so called 'stainless' hardware from the local hardware store...

I now go OEM on 99% of my needs... just seems to hold up better...

96 - That's why Doc recommends zip ties for that area.

It sure did cut into fast. 5 Minutes?????

Don't know if you can get them on the half shell but you can get Hose Clams here:http://www.kevcor.co.za/index.php/hoses-a-fittings/302

no, it was probably already there, but it never leaked before...
i think the flat part of the hose clamp without the notches was covering it the whole time as well, and once i changed it from the clamp the the ziptie, i got exposed...
so im not sure..

This was the first time I bought clamps from Auto Zone. Normally, I buy a bulk bag from Home Depot... but Auto-zone was on the way home that day, and I bought 4 boxes.

FYI... the rest of them hit the trash last night.

The Home Depot clamps are made by "Ideal" and they are good stainless clamps.

I looked on the Tractor Supply web site and didn't see them. Can you send a link?

I have some cable ties that the piece that grips is stainless steel, is that what you're talking about?

Lou

yea, bout a $1.20 a piece... we have the HUGE regular zipties here, we use them for attaching corals to artificial reefs then put them back into the coral reef nurseries here..those are about a $1.75 a piece. nice and strong..nice and strong sharp edges too when you cut off the excess..
