Has anyone tried this or even thought about this ??
If its reliable in a aircraft surely it should work in our jet boats ??
How about throwing out your old stuffed Mpen into the bin ??
I have thought about this and I can't see why it wouldn't work
Use the same ignition system that the rotax 717/720 powered aircraft use
simple Cdi system with a key switch starter
I realize the most ultra light aircraft use a duel system but I do remember a single system ( BMW I believe ) that would do the job
For me being in cambodia trying to rebuild my old 96 speedster from scratch and having no key might be my best option if it works

Any thoughts or info on this guys ???

Thank heaps keep up the great work guys

The 720 engine doesn't need the MPEM to run. It has a simple HV CDI system. BUT... on an aircraft engine... you don't have to worry about the engine "Unloading" and over reving, since you prop the engine for the target RPM. In a watercraft... when the pump unloads... you need a revlimiter. AND... that's built into the MPEM.

Also... the MPEM isolates the VH power from the kill switch, and adds security. Both of witch aren't needed in an aircraft.

If you are going to remove the MPEM from a 720 ski... make sure you address the other requirements.

Hello mr Honda thank you for your reply
Ok so your saying if I isolate the kill system with relays and use a rev limiters one per engine this will work I can then remove the Mpem ?.
I am in cambodia so parts are not so easy to find
And my craft is a twin speedster

Thanks again

Gary

Yes... absolutely. There have been a few people to do that. All you need is a relay for the kill... and an aftermarket rev-limiter... and you will be good to go.

For the other people reading this.....

This will only work on the 587, 657 (3wire), and 720 engines. The 4 wire "X" engine isn't as easy to wire up... and the 800 and 951 engines need the MPEM because the CDI system has a digital "Handshake" with the MPEM before it will start.
