fiddlehead - Some people don't. I did on mine so all the hoses match and just in case some goo moves around to a fuel line.
 
Fiddlehead, don't rely on that filter, it sucks. Leave it there and hooked up, but go to the parts store and pick up an in-line filter. Fram makes a G2 or a G12 I think that you just cut the feed line to the carb and clamp in there. I put mine near the oil filter so I could reach it through the seat opening. I got this idea from this forum.
 
bell99man, thanks for the tip i will try that. I am currently struggling with the fuel selector switch. Anybody got any tricks on how to get the damn thing off? I am thinking about getting a new one after but i kinda don't want to destroy the old onel trying to remove it. Thanks forum

Try removing the center "button" on the outside of knob. should be a nut under that. Unless there is an allen set screw on the side. I was able to clean mine. Be watchful on how it comes apart when you clean it.
