Just remember, once you start adding power, reliability goes down. These skis are already about maxed out from the factory and adding go fast parts to an 18 year old engine and pistons might make a "boom". Remember the phrase about jet skis...

Cheap. Reliable. Fast..... Pick two, and you will not get the 3rd. Lol

Very well said my friend..... I'm not really a fan of adding mods either... I just didn't know how much that pipe and head would compromise reliability... If those are considered kind of a mild mod for that motor or what.... If it's gonna hurt my dependability greatly than I will pass the parts on to someone else who has more time to work on it....

Anyone have any thoughts about the reliability of adding the factory pipe and r&d head?

Wow I'm so jealous!!! What a score. The FRM is just a fuel rail the carbs are True Cad Red Tops(I think). To confirm this look down the center with the throttle open and there will be no bomb sight. The high speed fuel is drawn in from the little holes around the inside of the red billet top. I love them and have them on both my X4 and my Big Red GSX. Big performance gain(when combined with other parts) but drinks more fuel for sure.

If these parts were set up correctly it can be reliable with the performance. This looks like an old build to me because the brand names were are from the mid 90's era. If you want to return it to stock I will trade you good parts plus cash. I think the sponsons are Trackers, again from that first era of X4 aftermarket parts.

That X engine is awesome!! You have bigger pistons and better porting than most 787's. I bet that thing is a 61mph ski. Great Score!

I would have seen it sooner but have family in town. Back soon.

You know it probably has a nice grate and impeller also. Somebody bought the best ski of the day and then tricked it out from there.

This is one of 500 made. They had to make that amount for it to be a production model and then "homogenized" (I think I got that work right) as a racer. The cut off for the classes was 785cc. Your model is slightly greater then 785cc so it was allowed to run in the larger cc class. I love the fact that it ran all over the big triples of the day. A couple years later they got the off brand triples tuned up and 785 couldn't hang. This ski represents that time when Seadoo's superiority was undeniable. 2>3

Thank guys! I don't think I could be happier with my purchase Im so glad to have found such a rare ski.... Thinking of going full blown restore on this guy and selling the aftermarket parts to cover the purchase price.... Thinking of keepin all of the handling parts for my 96.

And thanks to you Matt for helping me identify the carbs, I'm not home at the moment but as soon as I get there maybe I can confirm that they are red tops... And yes, very happy with the X motor! Also you are correct it has an R&D grate and an solas impeller.... Maybe we can get together on some of these parts.... You can shoot me a p.m if u want and we can discuss before I post anything to the classifieds

Just got back to my house, these indeed look to be the red tops

you can add me to your list of guys that will help find a home for some of thos parts I have a pile of first time apart motor parts with 95 stamping. one nice thing up here they spend 2/3 of there life frozen seriously slows the corrosion. I just helped a buddy tare down a 3 year old sbt motor I was grossed out by how abused the core parts were anyway pretty jealous sweet score

I'll keep that in mind man.... Would be pretty sweet to have a head with a 95 stamping... I'm thinking I'll just sell the engine bolt on parts, I'll keep the handling parts for my 96... So with that being said, the R&D head and Team Butch cover are for sale, as well as the Spec 1 factory pipe. Also up for sale will be the Red Top carbs and K&N flame arrestors with the Team Butch manifold....

Ha thanks man!! That is the plan! Go full on resto! Shouldn't be too bad on this one... Literally spent 10 seconds with a little compound

Had the ski actually running in the driveway a little bit ago.... Idled and started fine eventually! Couldn't believe it! Really wondering if I'm gonna need a new dess post, takes multiple tries to get it to recognize the key.... Also, here's some pics of the cylinder bores, they look really fresh to me, what say y'all?

I'd run that, but they're not OEM first over pistons-- "I think". I'd like to see some better pics on both domes. They do look pretty good. Slap a stock head on it and take a comp test.

Thanks for the reply, yes that's what I was thinking as well, with that .25 stamped on top it makes me think they are oversized pistons.... Here's
Some pics of the domes

On an X engine it will be .25 over stock, but Seadoo will mark the exact size, not just .25, it would be like 81.89(I know that's not the correct number- just a for instance). It should also have AUS near the arrow. But it doesn't really matter, they look pretty good too me :)

As far as the DESS post goes, my 96 is the same way with 2 posts, the old lanyard and a new lanyard. Yet once the temp is warm outside, it works every time without fail.

Ah that makes sense... Didn't know they marked them that way... Good to know that looks as good to y'all as it does me! Definitly a double score... Just swapped the heads with my 96 and got 148 in each hole... So not bad...

Also that's good to know on the dess, I'll see what happens when it's warm out, also xxx you would probably know this one, will the intake manifold be any different for the X motor vs the standard 787?
