i see that the crank is welded, maybe an sbt ?only an arrow on top of the pistons and a 1.00, if it was sbt,i have to say that it ran great for almost 3 years till it got filled with water, then lack of lube while the water was blowin around did this.i added a bunch of oil while we were gettin the water out,but maybe not enough, dont know for sure.

lol, I don't have a brand new one (used it), and with engine + shipping costs, I think you'd be better off just doing the SBT swap they have where they send you the new one first.

Not that I want to lose a sale, but the engine in my basement came out of my 02 XP. It sucked in water and blew the head gasket and a head bolt off. I've looked it over for damage, cannot find any, just haven't had the initiative to put it back together. And don't want to sell someone something I don't know will work 100%.

Sorry...

SBT with a 2 year no fault warranty is the way to go if you're in a time crunch

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

Will your buddy fit the bill for an entire reman or just top end?

I agree that SBT is the fastest alternative, although obviously your going to have some time involved.

the only other option is to quickly find a runner and buy it, use it during the visit and then sell it after.
(I kind of did that in 2014 with Matt B's 95 xp800, I knew I needed a ski for a minimum of 3 weeks for my daughters summer visit, we rode the piss out of it and then put it up for sale, and i'm doing it right now with an 04 GTX, she arrives Friday)

curious, was the friend a noob, ie: when it started to tip over did he hold onto the handlebars with the beginners death grip and let the captain take the ship down with him ?

If you just need it to run... Welll....

First... don't yell at me.

Second... take a small jeweler's file, and clean the burrs, and get the ring free. (Do not damage the ring with the file) Then remove the rings, and clean the ringlands. THEN... lightly hone the bad cyl... and put it back together.

I've cold seized dirt bikes in the desert, (using sandpaper) and I've repaired worse than that to get me though a weekend.

my buddy invited his buddy,he is 6'7" 280,,i told them both,,,"dude,ur too big for my skis,ur gonna sinkum".
they said theyd pay for any damages and away he went,,maybe 100 ft later, the dud ewiped out,in a wild flat spin.beat his face up,broke the cowling on the ski, tryin to reboard, the ski flipped both directions, probly 25 times, they swam it to shore.
I pulled the plugs, and it was totally full of water.hours later I got it to run, went to dry it out on the water and it seized. my buddy is payin for all costs.oh,,he aint happy bout it,lol.

doc,,ur right on the filing the piston trick,we have done that a few time to get by on the dirtbikes.

I'd like to have seen the video of a 280lb person boarding a XP!

it was frikken hilarious!! expensive for them, alot of work for me,,,but was funny as hell to watch.
I think im goin sbt.for quickness. I do think the engine was an sbt based on the piston size, and welded crank.
btw,,i use lucas oil,and the other piston and cylinder walls look great,as well as the raves,,ill post piks tonight.

Funny thing, but I'm not even sure sbt will take one of their own engines as a core seeing how they max out the cylinders and weld the crank. Might wanna check that out

I have had a couple 720's and 787's get flooded by beginners and after we got all the water out and ran them they lasted for years after that.
I know the 951 is temperamental but is this common for one that has been flooded? It looks like you took all the correct steps by pumping out the water and running it as soon as possible.

+1 and also used some swimming pool acid to get out the aluminum in the barrel and ran it in a race minutes later.
