I have a 97 XP (787) that will typically start and run fine for 30 minutes or so then suddenly power cuts out, almost like it's running on one cylinder. It gets very boggy and will only run at no wake speeds. At times it will stall and will be extremely hard to start again. It does not appear to be overheating. I usually limp it back to the trailer and by the time I get it home, it will run just fine again... for awhile. Any ideas? Would a going bad regulator/rectifier cause this?

Could be the voltage regulator.
Also try opening the gas cap because if the vent is stuck closed it will develop a vacuum and starve the carbs of fuel.

Gas tank venting was my first thought but no change when opening the cap.

Regulator could be... might try swapping it from another ski. Any idea if a regulator from a 99 GTX Limited (951 motor) is compatible?
