RESTO 96 XP Resto Project: Clapped out

I think all I really have left to do is wrap the hood, have a key programmed, put the pump back on and water test it. Oh and get some reg decals. I'm not putting the pump back on until after I hose test it. Diverting funds into the HX right now.

Sorry there hasn't been too much to report.

Some fresh billet Spim-e-ness

Thanks man!

lol,
that billet selector looks weird with the carbon fiber on the outer ring, i've only seen it with the black ring.
how's it look from a distance ?
good bad indifferent ?

I think it looks tight, I just wish I had a silver filler and not the black one. Looking at it from a distance is much nicer. I did just pick up a nice metric button head at the shop so I'll see how that looks. Or I might just use a socket head cap screw(allen screw) and make a spacer on the lathe so that the head will be all the way to the outside. What really got my goat was the fuel selector on the HX is clocked different so I will have to do a little leg work to get that one correct. I tried rotating the selector on the HX but it hits the gas tank. If you look in my HX thread on the last pic of the buffing you'll see the fuel selector spot on it where I filed a new index notch.

if you figure out an easy filler other than the rubber, i'd be a buyerl, i go through about 6 of these a year and an alternative to the rubber or nothing would be well worth it in looks, finish it off nicely, but at the time I hadn't considered the contrast against the carbon look

i just looked your project and is fabulous! just say congrats!! maybe i will copy some details in my skii :p

I guess I'm sorta taking the easy way out. I was going to do a carbon fiber wrap on the hood, the more I kept looking at it, it was going to be tough, real tough I think. So I opted for a yellow single gauge hood instead, it was actually Jetskigoodies that pushed me over the edge by posting it in the Florida Classifieds the other day. I saw it and just pulled the trigger. It's real clean. I just kept thinking that I would more than likely just waste about $75 in wrap, so for a $120 shipped it was a no brainer. I still want to do the wrap but I think I'm going to go a different route with painting the green SPX hood either black or gray then cutting out around the hard parts then outline that with a pin stripe, but that is down the road. It just arrived today and I just laid it on for now but it looks awesome. Sorry for cheesing out on the hood.

Although I think a CF hood would look awesome on there, it probably would be rediculous to try it with all those curves. I say maybe throw a decal or something up on/ by the hood and call it good. That thing is clean, was it an original from a 95 XP?

Yep it was from a 95 XP800, and no I will not put any stickers on it. The only decals that would ever go on it would be the correct decals that would be on a 95 XP800 hood like on this one.

Lol thats what I was talking about, except maybe like a silver or a black Bombardier decal, something that looks like it could have been OEM. Lets not kid ourselves anymore, we know your not a purist anymore, im sure you'll find a way to spice it up! Or maybe like the 99SPX where the bombardier decal is right below the hood

Only spice on that hood will be the OEM 95 decals or perhaps some Old Bay, nothing close, similar, almost the same, ain't happening. Parts like this can't get ruined. Who knows maybe someday I'll have a 95 XP800 that needs a hood, that's right where this would go. It's nice to dream right?

That hood looks great on there. I was trying to score another yellow single gauge hood. I had a guy that said he had them but he only had blue and purple ones. I painted my yellow one and took some grief on that lol. I am looking for another 1 or 2. Who am I kidding 1 is hard enough to find 2 is damn near impossible.

How do you like how well the pad flows into the hood? The first time I put that style pad and hood togethor I was shocked how well it looked. I am shocked seadoo never did it themselves.

The flow is perfect, I was amazed and the yellow color of the handle bar cover is real close to the hood too.

Jetskigoodies...PLEASE start selling that bracket.

And FYI guys...I have a couple MINT yellow bar covers in stock, lots of black too.

The king of restorations (JSG) has a bracket for holding those bar covers in the perfect spot on the older machines with the rubber bar covers like the x-4s.

Bastard was supposed to send me one...;)

Is this the bracket that holds the pad and cover that I bought and can't get it to fit correctly? I want one of those brackets too. Guess I'll have to wait or figure it out. I have the Styrofoam duct taped onto the handlebars... the pad is just reupholstered and the cover painted. They are sitting in the garage.

Racerxxx your restore is awesome man.

Yes this is the bracket to mount the later style bar cover and pad. Well, really to mount the pad.

Thanks for the compliments. Getting closer.

Looks good, although I don't see the appeal of a 1 gauge setup.

My fav was the 3 of the 98 GTX. big speedo, tach and info center.

The gtx and gsx already have a nice sleek hood. The 3 gauge hood on the x4 is not sleek at all. Three gauges are nice I just want the mirrors that are pointless on the xp gone.

Ok, so I was surfing Ebay the other week and saw a bar pad that matched my hump seat spot on. The the wheels started turning, if I could get the gray pad for the XP I could take the mint yellow pad and put that into a black bar cover for the HX, but I needed to get said bar cover for the HX. So back and forth with minnetonka4me on colors for the gray pad and the correct black bar cover didn't work out. Sorry for putting you through a color fiasco Nick, I was even dead set that the grain of the material had to match the seat, again, sorry Nick. I really like the pads to have the embossed SEADOO logo, so covering one was out of the question. So scrounging Ebay, making offers and working out deals with guys on Ebay I finally got all the parts. I think it really finishes off the "look". All this because of the Jetskigoodies update. (see the HX thread for the pics of the bar cover/pad on that one)

Spot on (the flash was weird)
