Had a what seemed to be corroded cylinder head cover. It was. Ordered a replacement head and cover, got them. Ordered new gaskets and loctite, got em. Now the problem that has wasted so much time. Seadoo manual has listed as torque specs "n/a" what the heck good is NA. doesn't tell me what i need. Scoured the internet, specs for every other seadoo from the beginning of time nada! Found a posting on this forum from 2009 (my hopes were up) zero responses. Hope he found help somewhere! All I need is a few stinking numbers, not asking for someone to give me a free rebuild....PLeeeeeeeeeeze help! Thanks

The manual that I have, which I downloaded from this site has the torque specs. Cover Bolts 17 ft. lbs, cyl. bolts. 30 ft. lbs.

Head 17 ft-lbs, head cover 80 in-lbs jugs to base 17 ft-lbs

Edit- Lou didn't have his specs added yet when I started typing this, didn't mean to post a differing spec than he posted. The book I am looking at shows 17 ft lbs for all and no 30 ft-lb specs anywhere, so I'm confused. Also, I just realized it had a note that the 80 in-lb cover bolt torque was GTS only.

Thanks for your response, but I am even more perplexed than I was before. The bolts for the cover go clear through the head, so how can there be 2 different torque specs? So the 30 ft lbs would be for the cylinders? And the 17 ft lbs is for the cover and head? Thanks Again! Jeff

I think the last couple times i pulled a cylinder head cover I just loctite'd the bolts and tightened them until they were tight. I didnt even bust out the torque wrench. Not saying this is the best way but I've never had a problem doing it. The actual cylinder head is a different story though..

Well Im confused. My bolts go clear through the cylinder cover and the head and secure the two of them to the cylinders. I have two responses one says 17 ft pounds for the cover and 30 ft pounds for the head. how can these
be torqued to two different specs when the same bolts secure both?

The bolts that hold the cylinder cover down get torqued to 17 FT/LBS straight from the 96 service manual Same as the bolts that hold the jugs to the case.

Thank you so much! I have been getting two different answers 17 and 80 but no one seemed to realize the bolts that secure the cover also secure the head! Unless I am incorrect somehow, you cant torque the cover bolts to 17, then call them head bolts and torque them to 80.

There are 4 bolts(per cylinder) that hold the jugs to the case, Then the cover bolts go thru the head and hold them to the cylinders. I believe there are 12 cover/head bolts. No do not torque them to 80 Ft/Lbs. Hammer on!

Kwiktsi said 80 in-lbs. This would be 6.7 ft lbs.
Yes, the book I looked in has the cover specs as 80 **INCH POUNDS** not foot pounds. Damn, you'd be breaking out the extractor set for that one lol. However, I just edited my post, I didn't realize that next to the cover torque spec it said (GTS). I was just going down the line and typing out the numbers. The cover specs don't apply to the GTI. Sorry for the confusion. It states 17 ft-lbs for the head and jugs on the 96 GTI.
