2013 GTI and GTR salt seeping through the seats onto engines

I bought my skis with low hours a few months ago. They were salt water used but in like new shape.

I notice everytime I use them (mostly in fresh water), salt from the wet seat is dripping on the valve cover and down the engine. I wash and rinse it off and then dry out the hull, but man, how much salt do these things hold? I figured by now the seats would be flushed out of their imbedded salt content.

What do you guys do to rinse the salt from your seats? I notice the GTI with the elastic material holds alot more salt then the GTR with the solid vinyl material.

Thanks.

I don't seem to have this issue. Maybe you can spray a sealant on the seat so that it will drain from a specific area as opposed to the top of the engine.

I've got a GTR and ride in salt water. I don't think it's the seat that's holding the water; I think it's spraying from the inside. Probably from the carbon seal when riding in chop, etc. I just give it a quick rinse after each use, and spray with storage oil every once in a while.

Thanks, I will take some pics next time I go out. Salt comes in even when I am in fresh water and always deposits in the same area. Looks like it is coming from the tiny drain holes under the seats. Skis are pretty dry inside after a full day of messing around.

The seats don't seem to drain very quickly laying horizontal. I think I will rinse the heck out of them and stand them up vertical for a while to try and get the salt out.

I am sure that it is no big deal, but it becomes a pain to have to do a full clean of the engines even in fresh water.

boy, what your describing is really weird, i've been riding for years, i've had at least 7 different ski's for personal use over that period and not once have I ever suspected my seats of doing anything of the sort. FWIW I don't think i've ever had to drain my seats, they air dry on the way home from the ramp, and are bone dry when i get home.

This includes seats that are 15-20 years old, up to 2006... what you describe really makes no sense.

are you seat's being saturated w/o water somehow or were they seriously waterlogged ?

Thanks for the input.

The GTI seat is definitely worse than the GTR. It has like a spandex cloth which seems very porous. Mine are usually pretty dry when I get home too, but then I wash them really good and rinse them off.

The water isn't really the problem, it's doesn't hold a lot. It's the imbedded salt.

It's probable the previous owner never rinsed the seats down after riding so I will give it some time and hope the salt works its way out. We have added about 20 hours to each ski since purchase and about 17 of those were in fresh water.

I don't really "rinse" my seat's down either, but they are definatly thick vinyl, nothing like spandex, water beads right off.

The GTR, is it the orange one ?
the GTI, the green ?

I'm asking because I might have good quality vinyl seat cover's for both in my stock, I could cut you a good deal, and I know a guy in Laudy Laudy that could install them.

GTI is green one. Seats still look and feel pretty new. Thanks, I will keep it in mind though if I go that route in the future.
