Good day guys,

Question 1:

The other weekend my XP was tipped and it got a lot of water in the engine. It only beeped when the guy pushed the start button. Te next morning I went through the whole ritual of gettin the water out of the cyllinders. The ski started and seem to run fine. Unfortunately I had to leave for work, I had my fiance start the ski while connected with the hose and had her run it for about 15 minutes, she said it ran wothout any problems. Now my question is will the engine be okay? Was the 15min running enough to dry out everything?

Question 2:

Does my ski have one or 2 bilge pumps? The one white one in the back of the ski runs but does not pump any water out at all, even after switched off you can hear the pump running but no water is coning out anywhere??? When the ski is dried out inside the pump switches off so I would think the auto switch is all good. I just dont understand why it is not pumping out any water....

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Best regards,

Jacques

15 minutes is a good start, and will buy you 12-24 hours to get it on the water and ride it hard for an hour or so. this will evaporate and burn off the remaining moisture in the engine and keep it from ruining the internals. after you ride it, give it a good fogging after you pull it out of the water.

98 is possible I guess.
and ya, i'd get it out on the water ASAP
isn't 15 minutes a long time on the hose ? ie: not good for it ?

1). Getting it running was crucial as I have seen them seize in as little as 24 hrs.

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT,,, That said, you have a carbon seal (unless someone has changed to tontine older style) on your drive shaft. The seal works by allowing the water the ski is sitting in to allow a small amount of leakage to cool the seal. The carbon seal sits loosely on the shaft. But the rubber boot sits right against the seal. If it ran for 15 minutes without being cooled it is likely destroyed. I STRONGLY suggest taking it to the ramp, leaving it tied to the trail with the rear plug(s) in and fire it up without the seat so that you can see the carbon seal. It should drop, not STREAM water into the boat. If this is damaged two things will/can happen. Pretty serious cavitation and more importantly, the ski sinks...

I am NOT a know it all with the XP's. But I thought that in 08 they all had the carbon seal.

2). Either the output hose and or the bottom of the pump is plugged. The fact that you hear it and it does nothing is a good indication of something being plugged up.

Thank you guys for all the responses and information. I am out of the country hunting at the moment so it will be a while before I will be able to get on the water. It sounded all good when i started it and it never again had any problem starting so I truly hope its dry enough inside.

Also it has to be an 08 model as it reflects that on the papers and also on the black plastic cover underneath the seat at the back of the ski. I will post a pic of the ski now.

So on the bikge pump I will just have to take it out and clean it aswell check for blockages in the pipes?

Thanks again for all the help!

Someone may have doctored the reggy papers. Not the first time I've seen that. Just change the last 2 numbers on the HIN application and voila. It was about 2 months ago I came across someone selling a "2005 seadoo XP" well it turned out to be a 1991! purple and green with a yellow 580! but sure enough I asked to see the vessel liscence (our reggy in canada) and sure enough it said 2005, so the previous owner before him played him a nasty trick.

If you are out of town, any longer than a week, see if your wife can start the ski again every couple days, and if she is really good, have her spray some fogging oil through the carbs (some 951's have a clear plastic tube that you hook up a fogging can with red straw up to and makes life much easier. This will lube the bottom end and buy you some more time. Letting it sit like that is a recipe for disaster.

Mud bees love to make their nest in bilge pump through-hull fittings. I have a boat in the shop right now and I can see their mud nest in there. I recommend to test the bilge pumps periodically, once or twice at least during the season.

Probably your carbon drive shaft seal was damaged after running 15minutes out of water, but you had no choice b/c it was that or lose an engine. If carbon seal is damaged, then water will leak in around the drive shaft once the ski is launched. So beware!

Thanks guys I will ask her to start it up again just for a short time so it just lubes again. Also I will check the seal, is it a big deal to replace the seal?

Also I will take some pics of the HIN number once I am home and post it on the thread. Also will let you guys know what i see in the bilge pump.

Thanks guys.

Jacques

Also I am looking to buy the original sponsons for te ski but I am having a hard time finding a site that have them. If anybody know about where I can look please let me know.

Thanks a lot!

those should be easy to locate, you just want a good used set.

It can be hard to know it the carbon seal is leaking until you splash the boat, but if you're getting water in the hull once you do, then take the gray PTO cover off and have a look at the thru-hull seal around the drive shaft. The drive shaft needs to come out in order to change the carbon seal and rubber bellows that tensions it, so that means the jet pump needs to come off.

Grease the PTO splines zerk a stroke or two every 5~6 hours, as service manual advises.

top hood color, seat color, shock color, handlebar pad color.

also, on all 00 and 01s the sponsons were supposed to be yellow, but I've never seen that in real life. only on sea-doo photos. I think they didn't work out for production.

you also have to be a bit OCD about this kind of stuff :) the XP is still my favorite hull of everything I've ridden.

i'm sure it's on sea-doo's site too.

the XP had a few small changes for it's run post X4 hull.

the 99 changed color and engine a bit, and ignition box.

the 2000 or 01 filled in the holes in the front under the hood to, i assume, keep water out

The 2003 was a DI engine (as was 04).

the 2000 added 16 lbs over the 1999, not sure where all this weight came from.

overall, they were mostly cosmetic changes. I have a 02 since that's the 'newest' carb 951 there is, however the black 2000 is one of my favorite colors.

gotcha... makes sense now.

I had the 02 for about 7 months, i liked it, just didn't love it.
