I bet the pump area does get pretty nasty

Yup it does. Sure makes for a somewhat messy pump

98 pump is at the top of the pic. Just as clean as the 96 pump.

Another theory here......
I know about that time all the manufacturers were getting heat for the PWC "noise" issues and Seadoo even came up with the D-SEA-BEL system for noise reduction. Just riding behind them you can hear the exhaust much further away on the ones out the back than the ones exiting inside the pump area.

It might quiet it down, but I know first hand on my old 89 and 91 with aftermarket water boxes it is SOOOOOOO loud. That area is like an echo chamber .

Pulled the cement mixer tonight.

It looks worse than it is, if you can fathom that.

Should we start making wagers how many broken bolts he will have on this project?

that is sooo mean! but yes. subscribed.

I'll be honest and keep track for you.

1 so far, on the air box. Seadoo used enough red loctite to choke a horse on those screws. I'll drill it out.

2 and counting

Broke another one. Top left RV cover screw. What's amazing is the carbs popped right off, no white powder of death. This engine has all the signs of a low hour ski. The paint is not even really flaking off the cases and if you clean it with a rag it polishes up like new. Alas she's filled with crap. It might get crazy breaking this down.

I need to go to bed. Leaving to go snowboarding again tomorrow, gotta get up at 6:30am. I really should be in bed now but wanted to sneak in a few posts so I don't have to do it on the lift tomorrow.

Don't you have another 787 engine? This engine seems like scrap at this point, are you planning on just going another route or planning on rebuilding this mess?

The cases will be fine it's just everything in them that's toast. I wonder how bad the jugs are .

Got the engine all torn down.

It's full of sand. Had to dice off both rods, LOL that was fun. Now I just need to clean out the cases really good so I can begin the clean up process of them. First over should clean up the bores perfectly. The counter balance shaft is mint except the rear bearing. Whats great is, not much water got back in there. Also on a positive note, someone previously winterized it because there was still antifreeze in there which is a good thing.

Up to 5 now.

2 in the front cover and one on the rear engine horseshoe. I shouldn't really count that one, I swear it was broke during assembly. Where it snapped was rusted, not clean metal like it was just broken.

Probably interested, I snagged something the other week that I know you can use, possibly--no it's not an end cap. I'll shoot you an email.

Stator is actually pretty clean, a light cleaning and I think it's good. The rust is just metal fragments from the flywheel that got chewed up and stained it.

That rotary valve shaft is clean enough to eat off of
