Hey guys im new to the forums and need some help. I have a 97 xp, and it runs great, i love it, but the other day i took it out, i pulled the choke out to start it and when i went to push it back in, now it only stays at the half way point and when i try to push it back in, its almost like a spring and it wont go in all the way it stays out, what can i do to fix this? and is it bad to ride the ski like this with it out the whole time? thanks in advanced

Look to see if the linkage is frozen at the carb, or if it is the cable needs lube inside. Use PB blaster spray available from like Auto Zone and spray it good. If you run it at 1/2 choke it might run poorly and foul the plugs.

you shouldn't have to, push the choke back in.

Remove the airbox assy and look atop of the carbs. You'll see the linkage going across both carbs. Theres a setscrew behind each "gold" hex nut. See if the cable came out on the back/pto carb, then undo screw, and set-ur back in, then tighten down setscrew.

Sounds like you have issues down by the carbs as seadooya explained...you could also have a cable that is getting cruddy and need replacing.
