Racer, what kind of machine does he run?
You can't beat a old school machinist, we called my instructor in college a "walking machinist handbook" he knew so much

i envy you for having such patience to be so meticulous, i myself am restoring a 95 xp800 i just bought a week ago, am a huge fan of the x4 hull, up until i bought my 95 last week i didnt even know they existed, now im super excited to have found it and am extremely glad i didnt turn down the purchase, the ski was sitting in a back yard for over a year, when i went to see it i pulled the plugs and tried to turn the drive shaft with no luck, ended up buying it anyways for $300 with a trailer, pulled the head off everything looked pretty decent, with some oil a new battery and a rubber hammer i got the pistons moving again, rebuilt the carbs, and now the ski is about 2 mph slower then my buddys 99 gsx limited, its summer down here in florida so the real resto wont be happening for a couple months, but curious in how your going to wet sand and buff, im in the process of doing it to mine so it looks decent this summer, sorry for the story, i got a little excited lol

It's his machine shop, he's got 5 knee mills(sold probably as many off), a CNC, a few lathes and a bunch of other equipment. He enters every line of G code for the CNC, no program dumping that down, he does it old school---every letter, number, coordinate, and decimal point all entered by hand. He's forgotten more than I'll ever know. I swear working full time out of his shop is what got me through college, that is where you learn. I was assembling equipment out of his shop during the day and doing college at night. I always say college got me the paper, work got me the knowledge. My pop was a machinist too, so I was already into that before I hit there. Tough not to stay around that environment.

LOL, I never used to have patience. Another trait I learned at work, hurrying gets you no where fast. Take your time and make sure it all fits the way it's supposed to.

Stay tuned for the wet sand and polish, should be coming soon enough!

Congrats on your purchase JB sounds like you lucked out so far.

That's awesome, I enjoy every aspect of machining also. Does sound like a a nice setup and environment he has going on. Lucky for you :)

Yep, it's really great. Thankfully my son and daughter both like going there. We let them loose and they build stuff with gauges, fittings, screws, belts and what ever else is at their level. If it's missing, they have it, LOL. My daughter will usually bring me home a "shipment", a box full of hardware or miscellaneous bits.

thanks bud, im quickly learning the way of patience with my 6 month old son... lol

still wanting to do a compression test on the ski, but my buddy hasnt brought me his snap-on tester from work yet, plan on complete engine rebuild and hull resto when i finish the banshee and start riding it again..

my old man has this polishing compound he bought for his boat, suppose to be some heavy duty stuff, i forget the name now, but it works pretty damn good, although the old fl numbers on the hull seem to have stained the jel coat? tried wet sanding it down and buffily out, can barely see them now, but i can tell the jel coat is not as shiny where i sanded compared to the surrounding area, my wife doesnt notice it, but i do lol

also would happen to know of anyone selling a yellow single gauge hood for the xp? my ski came with a 96xp hood with mirrors and it is driving me insane

12 hrs from an expert machinist on a crusty set of 787 cylinders? Better paint those baby's gold!

Obviously you can never sell this ski. Just hand it down through the generations and explain to them what Grandpa had to do, LoL.

Yeah he said these were the worst pair yet that he has done for me. I estimate this was a 4-5 hour repair start to finish. But with holes off position needing new calculations and a broken end mill it all stacked the hours on. I told him these can not get scrapped, I need these back, I'm sure he slowed down a bit to avoid a costly mistake. He does top notch work for a guy who's going to be 77 in 2 months. I think he likes to do this to keep his mind going, he's at the shop 7 days a week whether there is work or not for the last 35+ years.

Here are the Rarest of the Rare, so far. Unless someone has a full set of NOS laying around. I have one front NOS which thankfully is the same for both sides just mirrored and one underside which again is just mirrored. Mike, I can send you these. The upper "pink" is definitely a different color from the pink(maroon-ish) on the bottom. Just like the dash is actually a red not a maroon-ish. It's just crazy that the coloring is different across these decals. Here's the hang up I'm having, the rear side decals on mine are a little less than desired down in the footwells as well as the other 95 I had access to tonight. But the rest is fine for tracing, so I can trace the perimeter of what I have, then ship it to someone with good lowers in the footwells to finish, then they ship to Mike to do his fancy art work with. These decals have been stored inside but they have lead a hard life. You can tell there is a difference in the coloring of the uppers to lowers.

Just the lower alone

LOL, been days........ Sometime you just need to know the right guy to get the right stuff. These are not mine, but I borrowed them from an X-4 junkie. I spoke with Mike @ PWCgraphics yesterday and these and some tracings for correct sizing will be shipping to him tomorrow probably. I have also provided him the rear USCG and flip over decals images as well as the correct nomenclature and sizing for the do not boost/correct oil decal for under the seat by the front seat latch, and the decal by the fuel filler. The only unknown is down in the footwells as I posted above, the one on my 95 is about an 1" to an 1-1/2" missing so that will be artistically entered by Mike. That is unless someone has a ski that has a mint lower footwell, it doesn't matter which side as the graphics are mirrored except the lettering. I did trace BOTH rear side decals in their entirety. I think I have about 4 hours just in doing that and burned through a pencil in the process. We are hoping from these NOS decals Mike can get the colors just a touch closer.

Man, many thanks to you!!! That's a lot of hard work! Thanks to you and Mike people will finally be able to get an almost OEM decal set... Most people won't even understand the efforts that went into creating these decals... I think my decals in the lower footwells are in great shape, I'll send you some pics and if you think they are usable I'll contact Mike....

Let me know asap, I can send you the tracings and you can just line them up and finish where I left off.. Then you just ship them to Mike.

When I get into a project--I'm ALL IN and I want stuff as close as I can make it if feasible. Mike is gonna tweak what he has now and I was as stoked after talking to him about some of the changes he can make.

Sounds good to me... I won't be off work for another 4 hours, but when I get home I'll take some pics and PM them to you to look at in the morn... Hopefully we can get them close to exact...

There is literally like 10 minutes left of tracing to do, if that. The hard work has been done. Bnelson sent me some pics and his look pretty good down in the foot wells so I might be sending them to him to finish up. From the images I can find of Mpowers ski, Mike has the graphics cut flat all the way along the bottom, which should only be so for the rear portion and the mid to front would be just above that imaginary line. It also looks like mine isn't bad as far back as I thought compared the the pics from bnelson.

And yes if you can get pics please do so, I'm shipping the NOS ones to Mike today. If your buddies decals are better than nelsons would you mind finish tracing them up?

Wow! Great job racer, lots of hard work to get these things reproduced

Thanks, I'm committed to the cause. Mike has done a great job with the 95 decals already, I just want the little details ironed out and he is going to deliver.

Oh the passion for perfection, I love it. Keep it up Dan, your patients will pay off, your gonna have a great story to tell when its done.
