well looking in the shop I have an extra head anyway so possibly trade for anything maybe ill be paying shipping lol I am looking for anything purple for an x4

How did you find out about the laquer thinner and that it would do that?

On my HX build I painted the purple rub rail with Krylon fusion paint, so I prepped the rails with lacquer thinner to rid them of any grease and contaminants. It was then that I found that it made the rails perfect again. For some reason I think the purple rails actually come back super shiny and not quite a flat as the black, although the black isn't really too flat. For those doing it "on the ski" the black will transfer to the deck, but it will come right off the deck with a rag and some lacquer.

Yep you are lucky. We have to do a good bit of driving for fun like that. It's always worth it though

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

Yeah man! We have a decent place about 45 minutes away and a bunch more about an hour and a half to two hours away. That's why I love where we live, down to the shore in 2 hours, snowboarding in an hour, what more can you ask for.

I will be sending you one of each of these decals and the nose badge. I forgot sorry, it will go out tomorrow. Ahh....The peanut butter trick, I have been using that trick for a long time. I use a wax that smells like banana laffy taffy, so my 96 smells like a peanutbutter banana sandwich. I think ive used that analogy before lol.

I think your resto could use the badge for sure, but I cant remember if your rear decals are white or yellow. Either way I am sure one of your restos could use them.

Mmmmm...... Banana peanut butter sandwich lol....I don't suppose there is anyway I can get one of those decals that shows which direction to flip the ski? Those would be awesome to finish off my 96...

Well Gents here's the latest installation. As the only guy on earth to care if my date castings are correct, I just so happened to find an EXACT MATCH. I bought this head the day after I posted the original one was shot. I also have a batch of some new goodies that have been trickling in on the front door step.

Thanks for the goodies JSG!

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

I'll get there. Finally going to be a bit warmer this week and I think we might be done snowboarding for the season so I can start to concentrate!

Thought I was gonna be in some serious trouble today. My father in law spent about 12 hours on this set, needless to say he was happy to see them leave the shop this afternoon. He said the bolt circle for the head was not correct about 4 out the 6 holes were correctly spaced but two were off on both, and not the same two either. So the stainless was a bear to drill, then he snapped a carbide endmill in one of the holes but managed to get it out---some how and I wasn't asking either. So he got them prepped up and I put in some helicoils in them, 5 out of 6 on one jug, and 4 out of 6 on the other. Now we're rock soild! Got the broke exhaust bolts out too. Saved two more from the scrap pile. I'll blast these clean later at build time.

Got my high tech depth gauge to set the helicoil at the same height as the original threads. There is JUST enough room to get a helicoil in there. The helicoil tap just lightly nicks the outside of the cylinder wall, BRP planned that one ahead of time I think.

You need to clarify for me. So the holes in the head were not lined up correctly with the bolt holes in the cylinders?? Is this because the heads and cylinders did not come as a set? I would think that they were all made within the same spec.

I am probably misreading it.

Basically they were not true from the factory. We assume who ever was running the machine that day wasn't on their A game. We had the correct numbers from a clean cylinder I had in there a while back, the numbers he came up with BEFORE he even turned the machine on were off, the two heads I have measured the same. He always checks the part he's about to machine--in case of irregularities which proved dividends on this go round. You NEVER assume anything. I forget the exact number it was off but there obviously is enough "wiggle" room in the head to line it up. There are a bunch of online bolt circle calculators but some how he has this info stuffed in his head from years of machining.
