Busted my safety switch, anyone have a spare they want to get rid of? I won't pay $112 at the dealer for a new one.

There are safety lanyard switches out there for sale. But im not sure if you can just simply bypass your Seadoo safety switch. As it reads of the dess lanyard.

If there is away of doing this.
Its not a safe bet to broadcast it in open forum for opertunist ski thiefs
.

I have a 90 SP, it is not a DESS system, and does not require a DESS lanyard. I know the trouble I would have gone through had it been a DESS system and am glad it never came to that.

That said, I found a non-DESS switch on Ebay and am waiting to find out if they will accept Money Order instead of Paypal.

Pay pal is a good thing and easy to apply for. I use it all the time to buy lots of things from e-bay to other venders like the premium section here on the forum. Try It ...You'll like it ...

I know how great Paypal is, the problem is that someone tried Identity theft with my account but they were unable to track the person before he deleted the info, leaving me with an almost $400 negative balance. Until it is resolved, my account is locked and un-usable, that is why I use Money orders for everything. Hopefully, it will be resolved by the end of the year.

Until then, money orders will have to suffice.

I found another non-DESS switch on Ebay and they accept money orders, I just have to wait 6 days for the auction to end and another 4 or 5 before it gets shipped to me. Another couple weeks before my Doo is on the water. Primer will be finished tomorrow and everything else is done. Checked for spark and everything seems to be working great. Haven't started it yet but before I got a chance to try, I busted my safety switch. Guess I was trying to hurry too much.

Jeff, I'll check the wire diagram and see if there is a way to bypass the lanyard to get it started as a "temporary fix" till you get the part...I'll try to post back in a few miutes....ok

I can always use a broccoli rubber band if I need to. The left thumb kill button works so I can kill the engine that way if need be. I just don't want to take any chances out on the water with no safety switch. I already installed a light duty spring on the steering cable to turn hard right if I let go of the handlebars so it won't get far without me, another little safety trick I learned from a newer model, lol. I also installed a slightly stronger trottle return spring so it closes faster when I release the gas lever. I found a couple of cleats I can mount on the side and bow of the Doo for docking and towing, and got a little gift basket from one of my Coast Guard Auxiliary buddies containing a new flare gun, 3 can horns, Auxiliary duty ensign, whistle, docking and towing lines, and a throwing line. All I need is a throwable floatation device, handheld VHF radio with earpiece, and a few more things and I will be ready for patrolling the Delta Waterways.

Ok here's what I found; the Gray and Black wires on the kill safety switch, need to be connected to operate. in the lanyard switch; the Purple and Red need to be connected for operation. You could bypass both switches as long as they are connected for operation. or another temporary pushbutton could be used till you get the correct switch. I hope this info helps.

No, it's been a bad couple of months. Had to go back in for emergency surgery on my knee. A ligament holding a muscle anchored was abrading itself against my graft site and the muscle snapped up into my leg. They had to fish it out and reattach it. I have been recuperating since and haven't had much time to work on my Doo. I hope to get back to it within a month or so, and try to get the durn thing running, lol.

Surgery

Man, hate to hear you had a hard time with that knee. Maybe it'll be all healed up for you to be able to enjoy some of the season this year.
Just give us the word and we'll come down and help you move that baby into the living room where you can keep her warm and do some wrenching from your easy chair.........
Just kiddin, I hope your staying off your feet so you can recuperate, then get your therapy done in time to still have fun.........
Relax..........:chillpill:
