93 GTX only starts if start button pressed before safety switch

My GTX has had this issue since I bought it 2 years ago, so it's not critical, but it is confusing me. When starting it, if I connect the safety lanyard, and then try to start it, it will turn over, but will not start. It is not getting spark. If I press and hold the start button, and then connect the lanyard, it starts and runs great. Being a PWC novice, my first thought was a multi stage or redundant safety switch, but it is a simple 2 wire, open/close circuit switch. I'm assuming it's in the MPEM, and maybe a character trait that will be a theft deterrent. I read a different thread talking about only getting spark if they bump the stop button while cranking, so I am going to try that to see my issue is similar. That post was 10 years ago, with no definitive answer. Does anyone have any insight into a cause? I checked wiring connections in the power box, and all seems good.

I did find that my ski also acts like someone else's, that posted a few years back. Where as, if put safety tether on, press start button, which gives no fire, if I tap the stop button while turning it over it will start to fire. Seems to be, that the starter circuit needs to be activated before the kill circuit is deactivated. I don't think I'll be chasing down the cause, as long as it keeps starting, but maybe this thread will give others something to try, if they are not get spark.
