Will this press be sufficient for removing bearings on S/C?

I assume most of you are using a press to install and remove the bearings when rebuilding S/Cers?

If so, what are your thoughts on this 1 ton press?

Hmm, not looking like it will be tall enough to press the shaft out of the housing. What do all of you do?

I realized it would be good to have in my knowledge base so I am going to rebuild it. I've already got the charger disassembled down to the retaining disc and now just waiting on my rebuild kit with a couple of needed tools to arrive on Friday. I've needed a small press for some time now so I am springing for the tools on this job because I can tell you it won't be the only time I rebuild one. I will just use my 20 ton press this go around. I worked as an IMSA race team mechanic for years and have always done my own work (shy of machining) so this isn't my first rodeo. I've got everything (and every tool) I need other than the mounting plate and the 4 pronged socket to remove the retaining disc. My 11 year old could rebuild this.

I agree. Fortunately, I have a heated and cooled 25x25 shop, large rolling Matco cabinet and a nice work bench. All I need is the 4 pronged socket and mounting plate.

I love that shop. If it ever comes up missing overnight, start by looking at my place although I don't believe I have enough room to hide that in my yard.

I love my shop. I spend a good bit of time in it when I am not working for a living, lol. When we built our house, I wanted my shop to match since it was going to be detached. Unfortunately, that 12/12 roof and architectural shingles punched me in the liver.........and my checkbook.

you don't need a press to remove the bearings, they tap right out with the punch tool. they are not a tight press fit, light tapping is all it takes.

you will need the proper sc tools that you can get cheaply online, but the rebuild is pretty simple, you can do it yourself.

Thanks, I have a complete S/C tool kit coming from Seneca. Glad to hear a press isn't really "needed".

They are Sony iPela cameras in Sony outdoor enclosures. We have several. They are hard wired to a POE hub and operated through a Macbook Pro and iPhone 5.
