What's wrong with my oil pump?

I sent the 787 in my '96 XP to SES to be rebuilt. I replaced the oil injector lines with new clear ones. There's oil in the tank. I bled the oil pump. Also, before putting the motor back in the ski, I put a drill on the pump to push some oil through the new lines. For break-in reasons, I added pre-mixed the gas at 50:1.

Today I started the XP for the first time. While running it I noticed no oil moving through the lines. I killed the engine and re-bled the pump. I started the motor again but no oil moving through those lines. What's the most likely issue?

Do you have the cable installed correctly and the oil pump adjust right?

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

At idle, very very little oil moves. Crank it and hold the oil pump wide open with your hand and see if it moves the oil

The injector nozzles are a one way check valve, I always use my small pressure tester and make sure each one opens at no more than 4 psi before I install the new lines on them. I use 4" fuel line ties with the proper clamping radius to get a good airtight seal on the tubing.

hold it wide open it should barely move at idle. If it doesnt pump you forgot to put the little plastic thing on the end of the crank to run the pump...or it broke.

also remember that at idle, even with the arm wide open, the pump will only move oil every 7-10 seconds.

Tonight I brought the ski home and ran it on a hose. I held the pump wide open but never saw oil move through the lines.

Before I reinstalled my rebuilt motor, I thought it would be a good idea to prime the new oil lines. So I connected a drill to my oil pump. As the drill was spinning the pump I could see oil slowly push through the lines. Tonight I unbolted the oil pump and did the drill thing again. This time I saw no oil move.

Since this is a freshly rebuilt motor, I'm super worried about the motor getting enough oil. At least there's a 50:1 mixture in the tank for it's break-in. Is it time to put a block-off plate on it and pre-mix?

Do you se oil from the tank to the pump?

if not, then open the valve to drain it to the pump....be careful it's a little screw and it can break easily.

If so, is the pump aligned correctly?

Did you bleed the pump Like SDB suggested?

Loosen the bleed screw a little bit and let the oil flow a few seconds. Do not remove the screw. Pour some oil down the plug holes, put a rag over the plug holes. Crank engine and hold pump wide open. You should be able to see the oil slowly pump. The drill method....yeah I can't stand that. After you bleed the pump you could also just fire the ski up and let it idle and just hold the pump wide open and watch teh oil pump thru the lines. This right here is why I mix my first tank at 40:1, the recommended rate for pre-mix, that way I know I'm good to go.....for at least one tank, LOL.

Yes, I see oil from the tank, through the new filter, and to the pump. I bled the pump when I installed the motor. I don't remember if I removed the screw entirely, but I do remember bleeding it a second time after the first time I started it. I aligned it just like it shows in your picture. I had to use a mirror to check the alignment.

The first time I used the drill to prime the lines, I didn't bleed the pump first. Also, as I was priming the lines, the oil stopped pumping. I hadn't noticed the tank had gone empty.

Could I have burned up my pump?

Doubtful just doing it off the drill. Skip the drill, make sure like Tonka stated that you have the drive in the mag housing. Remove the lines from the nipples and try it again.

I stopped at a PWC repair shop this weekend. The guy sold me a used oil pump for $20. While replacing the pump I used my bicycle air pump and a basketball needle to blow air through the oil lines, just to make sure they weren't clogged. Hooked everything up. Started the PWC. Held the pump open. Presto! There's oil pumping through the lines! Happy Happy Happy.

So...what's the matter with the old pump? It seems like it WAS working, no? And then...just quit working?
