So I went to look at two 2004 RXPs for sale from the original owner who did not know the hours. Leading up to the inspection everything was perfect, original owner, professionally maintained, I pull up it's a $2M house on the lake, the seller told me one of them would not go over 50 mph but I was hoping it was just the learner key.
I take the cover off the first one and it's rough, dock rash city, sun faded, repaired hull etc. I take the cover off the 2nd one same deal. I hope on and put the key in, it says "Maintenance". I flip to the hours and it says 450. Blink blink...uhh 450 hours is that right??? (I live in Minnesota and that is almost unheard of. My 96 XP had 110 hours when I bought it) I go to the other one and it says 525 hours.
So I ask the owner "how many times and when was the last supercharger rebuilt" the reply I get is deer in headlights look and "oh I don't think that's every been done.
Upon further review the one with 525 hours would set off the alarm when it hit 50 mph. Also it was rattleing when I reved it in the driveway.
So my question is basically are both those engines gone? Could someone just rebuild the SCs now and go on with life?? From what I've read they can lock up at 100 hours if the SC is not rebuilt. I once passed up an RXP with 110 hours because the SC was never rebuilt. I didn't buy them and won't but I'm really curious as to how far gone those were.
