What's the longest you've seen an engine survive without the supercharger rebuild?

So I went to look at two 2004 RXPs for sale from the original owner who did not know the hours. Leading up to the inspection everything was perfect, original owner, professionally maintained, I pull up it's a $2M house on the lake, the seller told me one of them would not go over 50 mph but I was hoping it was just the learner key.

I take the cover off the first one and it's rough, dock rash city, sun faded, repaired hull etc. I take the cover off the 2nd one same deal. I hope on and put the key in, it says "Maintenance". I flip to the hours and it says 450. Blink blink...uhh 450 hours is that right??? (I live in Minnesota and that is almost unheard of. My 96 XP had 110 hours when I bought it) I go to the other one and it says 525 hours.

So I ask the owner "how many times and when was the last supercharger rebuilt" the reply I get is deer in headlights look and "oh I don't think that's every been done.

Upon further review the one with 525 hours would set off the alarm when it hit 50 mph. Also it was rattleing when I reved it in the driveway.

So my question is basically are both those engines gone? Could someone just rebuild the SCs now and go on with life?? From what I've read they can lock up at 100 hours if the SC is not rebuilt. I once passed up an RXP with 110 hours because the SC was never rebuilt. I didn't buy them and won't but I'm really curious as to how far gone those were.

Wow! I mean wow.

Rich don't stay rich spending their money. Sounds like they ran the fun out of them.

Doing the repairs yourself, subtract new long block engine (needing shortly) $3,000 to $2,500, SC $880, seat covers and etc from the price.
Boats have hulls in them that you throw money into and these are behind. $500 to $1000 each maybe $1,200 is all I would offer.
You might get away with just SC replacements, but the engines will be needing TLC very soon. $5,500 to $6,000 w/trailer will get you a 2004-5 RXP with 30 to 50 hrs in new condition.

Let us know what happens.

While I agree with doc on the $1200 is all they're worth, I'd stay away from them all together. You can get a pair of skis in like new condition for what you're going to end up sinking into those 2.

I should have mentioned the guy was an absentee owner, he bought them for his 12 grandkids and had the local storage yard do the winterization. I'm guessing they never recommended anything more than an oil change.

As I said I did not and am not going to buy them, I didn't even make an offer, which for me is very rare. They sold the next day, asking price was $5k for the two of them with a nice double trailer.

Though there is a norm,,, there are extremes as well.

I bought my two 97 Polaris ski's with 10 and 11 hours on them in 1998.

I rode them for 11 years and NEVER did a single repair on them. No wear rings, impellers, NOTHING. I swear to you I replaced the plugs twice and ONLY just because I felt I should, not because there was a miss.

I sold them for 4900 dollar with one just under and one just over 600 hours..

I think much has to do with the user...

You would have to be a seadoo dealer with access to wholesale parts and mechanics that are standing around paid by the hour with time on their hands, to make it worth it.
You where right to let them go.

I got my first seadoo last year... Got it from a guy in Barrie, Ontario (canada)... I got it for 5,300... 2003 Seadoo 185hp Supercharged with 170hrs.. I did some research before got it, you know, about the supercharger and other basic maintenance stuff... Since he rode in fresh water all the time and inside/outside body looked inmaculate, i bought it... He said supercharged was done at 100hrs but he didnt give me and proof of that...

Im 37 y/o, and i tried to dont hit the full throttle to find out how fast can go... 30mph as usual max speed... Maybe one or two time i push it to 40mph but thats it... Run like a charm...

In my head, i assume if i dont push it to the limited, it will long last... I might be wrong... But it seems it survived this season... Btw, i babied it sonce i got it... Oil change, filter, spark plugs & anti freezer has been done... And wiped it down after every ride on lake ontario... I even spray anti corrotion oil in the jetpump area after each run...

Seadoo has 190 hrs...

The guy who did buy the pair is trying to flip one of them. He says in the ad "solid well taken care of machine". Good that he's up front about the hull repair, hours and that it "should have a SC rebuild" I'm not RXP expert but without a SC rebuild I can't image that engine is OK. Maybe I'll shoot him an email and politely offer him $1,500.

RXP $3,200

I always love this kind of sales double talk:
"but the transmission went out on my truck the very next day so I need to sell." followed by,
"Not looking for trades unless its something fast/loud/unique."

SO, does he need the cash or a different toy, I'm confused?

I have a 2003 Seadoo GTX SuperCharged. Has 230 hours on it and still runs like a monster. Never touched anything with the engine or the super charger. I change the oil every 60 hours. Last year, i got a rock stuck in my impeller ripping the drive shaft and breaking the seal in the engine. I don't have a large budget so I do all the work myself. It was my first jet ski and I bought it at 180 hours. Guy said he never rebuilt it and everything is stock except the wear ring, coils, spark plugs, battery. Recently, I have been starting to get problems as in the outdrive making sounds, Problems with the mpem contacting CAM. I ignored all those errors and went on the water to ride. It was going a well 65 MPH.

Now the OTHER one is up for sale by a different seller.

$3,700 RXP

I called him (not knowing this was the other one of the pair I already passed on). After talking to him for a while I asked - do you know the supercharger has never been rebuilt. His reply was "it had to have been rebuilt otherwise the motor would have blown by now"

Your ski has a well documented supercharger issue and rebuild interval. The ceramic washers in that model will come apart and when they do it often takes out the engine. $450-600 is so much cheaper than $3k on an new engine. Seadoo recommends a rebuild every 80-100 hrs for a reason. The bearings are the weak point in the design and normally can't take 230 hrs of wear. Just know your ski is on borrowed time. I hope none of this happens of course and good luck.
