So, I talked to a local guy that wants to unload a 1997 GTX with a locked up engine. The guy wanting to sell it works at a local watersports shop.

A customer who regularly maintained his vehicle via the shops services brought the ski in. When told it needed a top end job, he decided he would rather move on to a newer ski. The guy bought it off of him for $900 with a nice galvanized Karavan trailer.

As he works on other skis all day, he never got around to working on this one. He is not a certified seadoo mechanic himself, more of a grunt worker for the others in the shop.

They pulled the head off and the certified seadoo mechanic told the customer it just needed the top end done. 140 hours on the machine, would be the first top end job on it. Machine is cosmetically in great shape.

$900 w/galvanized single trailer.

He even will throw in a 1994 kawasaki X2 that also needs a top end job. I think he just wants that out of his way too.

Would you buy it?

Well, consider this too. I could do the rebuild, assuming all that it really needed, and then sell it this spring for lets say...$2400-$2800.

I may not necessarily want to keep it for myself. I would have about $1300-$1500 in it.

Worst case scenario...I more than likely would still be able to recoup all my money with a sale.

Really the worst case scenario is you find out something else is wrong. You could part it out and sell the trailer and break even easy.

I need to start selling gtx in PA. Ones run'n, with 150psi in each barrel, go for, atmost 2k here, so 900 buks, and a top end, nah, gotta walk man, plus, you dont know, whats with the crank.

Considering you need to pull cylinders to do topend, "borrow" the ski, pull the jugs off and inspect the crank, rv gear, shims on the sides of the rods..etc, IF alls' good, then you know, you need, just a topend

I'm with Seadooya on this one. On an "Unknown ski"... a bad engine is a full rebuild if I was keeping for myself. Regardless of hours, the crank is 14 years old, and it has seen 14 years of wet.

For $900, you could make your money back in the parts. (if they are good) but unless you can "float" the title... it's going to cost you a couple hundred $$$ more to put it in your name... and hulls are hard to get rid of. They cost me $70 to take them to the local dump.

Wow, couple hundred for a $900 ski? Thats crazy. Here in KY It would cost you under 60 bucks.

Well... it's tax and license on 2 vehicles. (trailer and ski both have a registration and title)

So... you will have $60 in tax, then about $40 for each of the vehicles... then $30 in notary fees. PA doesn't have real DMV offices. (GAY !!!!) We are forced to use local notarys or "T-plate" shops.

The registration is less... but this would be a title transfer, plus the registration. The yearly registration on the trailer is $28, and it's $18 for the ski, every other year. So, it's cheap after.
