A lot of anchors are on sale at different places now, and I would like to get one as it would have come in handy last summer…what is the best type for muddy bottom lake with a 16 ft. speedster? Thanks

It is required as boat equipment for any vessel on the water ways. The same as life jackets. You need to purchase the correct anchor line and chain too as well depending on how deep water you spend time in. Most places that sella specific anchor, will have a guide for the correct anchor and rode required for you anchor purchase.

Same boat, tres...i use the anchor that collapses on itself, has 4-piks, that lock with the drop of this round thing...cant describe it any other way, bro.

Grapple?

Timmy, do you mean a grapple anchor? I have one of those to secure the stern at beaches and a danforth for the bow.

RFoster.. Hey man I know what type anchor you are talking about, I thought about that kind, but it weighs a ton. Hey be careful with that anchor up there in the front seriously. I was keeping my battery jump pack up there and i noticed with jumping waves and constant bouncing in the front the batt. pack was beating the he77 out of the thin fiberglass bow. That was my concern with the mushroom; the weight and the jarring around in the boat. If i could think of a good place to store it I would go ahead and get one. I thought about a danforth with chain and then keeping it in a padded case somewhere.

Timmyboy; you are talking bout a grappling hook man..will that little thing hold our boats??

I bought a slip ring anchor. It will hold in almost anything. I could not find a padded bag to fit it though. I bought a Tupperware box that is the size of the anchor and I keep it in the ski locker. It really protects the boat well. Just my .02

Yeah, yeah..thats it..lol. It aint what i say, its what i mean...

Tres...no probs/worries, up to this point,...then again, coves in Lake Mohave, not that theres' a ton of rocks, but i dive under and wedge the anchor in between a few, or pile a few on...added security

So with a fluke(danforth) you pretty much need a lot of line, anf probably another anchor at the stern, and a mushroom you just drop it and that's it???

I like the mushroom for muddy lakes and rivers. Never had a problem with the 15# anchor holding my boat. I used a danforth anchor while in florida on a rental boat. It worked awesome, but I think it is meant for sand, so it might not work as well for what you want. I use the anchor I posted before with a 100 ft rope and it works just fine except one lake where it isnt long enough.

The anchor is vinyl coated, and it sits on the rope bundled up under it in that compartment, it never touches the fiberglass. Worked fine for me so far.

rule of thumb for the anchor rope is 3X the depth of the water for the line.
i.e. if your anchoring in 10ft of water you should let out 30 ft of line. this method works best with any anchor.
although when I anchor at sandbars I usually tie up kinda tight.
I used to use the mushroom anchor in my bassboat and it worked great.
