Hey guys, I just bought a 2000 speedster and have a couple of upgrades I want to do before summer. First, I am going to install hydroturf. Second, I am going to upgrade the stereo system, thats where my question is. I am planning on going with a Sony marine unit with intergrated IPOD connection. I have this in my Jeep and love it. I was planning on changing out the stock speakers with some Alpine marine speakers. Where is the best place to add another pair of speakers, I don't have a waketower. I was thinking up front but would love to have some ideas. Thanks and sorry for the long first post.

Todd

Sounds like 2 great upgrades; in this pic you can see the loaction of all 4 of my speakers; 2 by the back pad in the bow one by the driver seat and one by the far port seat (note i only left the center section of hydro-turf on my engine cover)

Yes they are all Jensen 6.5 speakers

where are you mounting the head-unit?

the previous owner of my boat put the head unit here

which i thought was kind of a bad place because i could not operate the head unit from the drivers seat so what i did was install a wired remote in the driver cup holder so that i could operate the head unit from the drivers seat

I'm going to put the head unit in the factory spot over in the passenger console. The Sony I'm looking at has a wireless remote that I'll keep on the drivers side. I'm also thinking about a Sony 4-channel marine amp, that should drive the four 6.5" Alpine speakers adequately. Thanks for the pics and response.

With that remote in your cup holder, where do you put your beer?

Other than no place for your beer, very nice looking setup you got there.

isn't that what the misses is for (lol glad she is not on this site:rofl:)

but any beverage i have i just put in the storage compartment behind the wheel

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I would like to see more pictures of speaker locations, I'm trying to figure out my setup and would love to see what you guys have done. I appreciate all of the replies, keep em coming, thanks.

Here is the Alpine Marine amp mounted under the cooler in the passenger storage compartment.

Those are great pics, thanks. Are those 6 1/2" speakers and a 10" subwoofer. How did you cut your holes, I've found a holesaw bit that would work for the 6 1/2" speakers but that's the largest I've found, thanks.

Todd

Yeah they are 10" subs and the others are 6 1/2's. All of them are marine rated Kickers. I read a lot on here that Tresvatos and Darth Speed both did before I started. Without those guys I would not have done it. I was really nervous cutting into the boat but once I made that first cut, the rest was easy. Behind those holes, the only thing in the way is the insulation material. It is actually harder carving it out than it was to cut the fiberglass. For the 6 1/2's, a 5" hole saw that I got in a harbor freight kit for like $15 was perfect. It will easily kill a cordless drill in no time at all. A corded drill cut the holes like butter. For the subs, I used the hole saw to make a hole first. I then tried several things from a roto zip, grinding drill bits, a dremel, then finally a jig saw. The jig saw was the easiest. Get the basic hole, then come back and clean up the tight spots with a dremel. Ask lots of questions, we can help!! Good luck, it is worth it in the end.

Wicked Wild...!

You guys are outrageous!!!!! Man, I remember those days but now that I have two small children, the water is geared more toward "family" than it is about me hangin out at the river rat hole, dunking down a cool one and listening to some Nickleback or Disturbed..... And I used to think my little 6X9's were hot with my tiny equalizer. Ya'll are off the freakin charts!!!!!

Thats awesome, those are great pics. Trust me, I'll be spending a lot of time here learning as much as I can. This definitely gives me some idea's and a good place to start with my audio build-up. Thanks again for everybodys replies.

Todd

....Like I said ..gotta get the dual batts. in before any more audio, otherwise I'll be the idiot in the cove with the loud stereo, but the click, click, click, when it's time to go in...thinking about just saying heck with it and go with two Optima Blue tops; put a Optima Red top in my truck, and trust me is makes a difference..smaller, lighter, more powerful, and my voltage gage is up to 15v. in my truck now…
