Any advice on changing out a Thrust Bearing. our boat is a 2000 14ft bomb. challenger with dual 75 hp motors. We found no gear lube in the cone and also found pieces of rollers from the thrust bearing, along with melted plastic. If we replace the bearing will solve our thrust problem? the wear rings, prop and shaft all look fine.

Thanks
Greg

with plastic visible, think the condition of the pump itself, is altered. It'll be a matter of time, when the new thrust/bearings go out again...

what do you mean by that? Is there a pumps that pumps oil into that cone that Lubricates the shaft and bearing?

no, its just an oil bath. But i'm more concern of the plastic pieces you got floating around. The bearings sit in their "housing", which with plastic debris, its possible its from, where the bearings seat, inside the pump. You wont know, until you pull her apart and inspect.

Yes we took apart the whole housing and found no sign of loose plastic or bits of bearing, the majority was all inside the melted cone. we will be ordering a new cone and thrust bearing, and re tighten the prop. the driveshaft and prop spline shows no indecation of wear or destruction.
