I have a 2008 255 rxp-x. Rebuilt the supercharger last summer. Ran excellent all last summer. Ran great this summer til last weekend. Probably have close to 35 hours on rebuild. This past weekend you can all of a sudden hear the supercharger whining at higher pitch. I'm guessing I lost a bearing. Any ideas if I'm right or why the early failure

I would, as suggested, Pull it and check it out before you ride it any more. That can obviously lead to much more damage if left unattended.

I definitely plan on checking it out. Just upset the rebuild did not last longer than 35 hours. I did read on here that the kits went to a shielded bearing. Does that reduce oil flow through the bearings. Should I look for a kit with open bearings. Also do you think I could just get away with replacing the bearings instead of a complete rebuild?

Who did your rebuild? Which rebuild kit was used?

I did and it's not my first either. Had zero problems with the rebuild. It was an oem kit I believe from riva Yamaha in Florida

I did read today on another site that the bearing bore may not be true. I don't know how true that can be when I had no problems out of original build

One big reason I bought the newer SC instead of rebuild. I knew I would not have to worry about it and just ride. I figure that I paid two hundred more, but that insurance will pay back in no downtime and labor.
