stainless wear rings?

hi. i have seen a couple of stainless wear rings for sale. does anyone have any neg or positive experiences with them? do they give any better performance-longevity etc.? thanks.

The idea behind the wear ring is to keep the pump and or impeller from wearing out from sand or debris going through the jet pump. It is better to replace the wear ring than the expensive impeller. Using a stainless steel wear ring defeats it's purpose.

My dad is still in the machine shops...

...and his first response when I needed to replace the wear ring was "I can make one out of stainless, and with tighter clearances".

I had to explain this same thing to him. Wear rings cost $40, and I have no idea how much impellers cost...

Impellers can run about $250.00 and up if I'm not mistaken.
