My 97 xp starts up and runs great for a few minutes then with no warning at all shuts off. I pull the key restart it and sometimes will run for a few minutes and sometimes will start and shut right back off. Ill pull the key again then hook it back on and get the long single beep. I feel like this could be an electrical problem of some sort. The engine doesn't seem to be getting hot as it continues to pee the entire time the engine runs. Runs great and just shuts off as If i pulled the key. It has done it over and over this afternoon until I finally have up and decided I better get back to the truck. Thanks in advanced!

I'm going to say.... Either the lanyard post has gone bad... or the contacts between them are dirty.

Try cleaning them... and if it doesn't help... replace the post.

The connections are a clean as I can get them. Never had any corrosion on them. The "key" has a tad of a wobble but nothing extream. Sometimes ill get the 2 beeps, sometimes the long single beep and sometimes no beep at all. If its the post how or where can I get one and replace it?

A single long beep means that the MPEM does not recognize the key

So,,, based on that, I agree that it is an electrical issue but I would think it solely has to do with the key and or the MPEM losing the "programmed match"...

If the key looks like it may be damaged, I would purchase a new key and get it programmed to your MPEM. The dealer can do this but it will not be cheap. Minnetonka4me does it as well for 20 bucks..

Dess posts are common failure items, I'd replace it first, then contemplate a new key- but to each their own.

you won't see "Corrosion" in the normal sense. The MPEM has to read the chip in the lanyard. If you get a poor connection, it won't read it.

Mix up a little baking soda and water, into a paste. Then rub it (hard) onto the contacts, to polish them.

Keys can go bad... and if it's lose at all... it's going to lose contact.

Ill try that dr Honda. I called a dealer today and a new post costs about 120 dollars. Is this a good price or should I look else wear?

We cleaned both contacts last night with baking soda and water. Seemed to start an idle fine..ran it for a few minutes with the hose hooked up of coarse! Hopefully that helps..if not ill be buying a new dess post I suppose

So I took it out or about half an hour this evening and here's what I learned. Nothing lol. As I mentioned in my previous post we cleaned the terminals. Once again went out got her warmed up and then dropped the hammer. Damn thing ran like a million bucks. I shut it off for a few and then fired it right back up but now started to make some waves and play around. Hit one wave pretty good and it died. Got it started again and continued..decided to hit another wave at an angle and when It did it died again! Started it back up an ran fine for another 5 min. Now I feel like this problem might be a lose wire somewhere? Or is this still a dess post I'm looking at?

I'd replace the post first, look at it this way. If you replace the post and it turns out to be the key, you've got a spare post you can use later for troubleshooting. If you replace the key first, and it turns out not to be the key you've basically got nothing.
