ok guys I did a bonehead move the other day.
Was goign to go out and play for a bit and loaded up my ols metal army 5 gal gas cans and filled tehm up with fuel. Rode all day and then when we were done instead of pumping gas at the stattion since i just bought that fuel in the mornign i dumped in about 3 -4 gals. Well thought all was well until i took it out today. ran great for about a half a tank and then started cutting out at various speeds. trailered it up shortly after and now am debating on what needs to be done.
I pulled the fuel filter and it was why i remebered the gas can and thought it was rust! had a lot of foating setaments and was rust colored!

I thought i would ask the expert what I need to do to get the problem solved!!

Can i just siphon out all the gas and put in fresh gas then run a bit of carb cleaner through the carbs?? (on the fresh gas???)

Or do I need to take out the tank completly to get out an debis and then also have the carbs rebuilt/cleaned.

I also thoguht about running a Br7es in place of teh 8 to run a bit hotter and maybe burn through this stuff better???

thanks in advance!!

You need to get rid of all the contaminated fuel. Clean the carbs, sediment and rust doesn't burn too well and won't just dissolve with additives. Use the standard spark plugs and gap them correctly...NGK BR8ES gaped to .021- .024" you should be good to go...oh yea buy a plastic fuel container.

Oh man...I feel for ya! :agree: The filters just aren't designed for rust particulates!
That is one, of many, reasons the Army went to plastic cans. :)

Can i just siphon the stuff out? Will I need to remove the tank? if so How do I do that on the XP??? Do you think i might get luck and be able to remove and replace teh gas and just run it through the system without a carb rebuild???

Lesson learned... ( THE HARD WAY!!)

thanks guys

You won't need a carb rebuild, but inside the carbs is a fine screened filer that is more than likely clogged. If you have them off you might as well clean them out and reassemble them. If you have crap in your fuel, it's not gonna float, it wll sink to the bottom. If you can siphon off the bottom than you might be ok...

Extra Filter for now?

if your worried about there being more rust put an in line fuel filter from a lawn mover and get one that has a bit of filter so you can run longer with out having to change it, and that will help with getting the rust from clogging up anything else.

Thanks everyone... I removed all the gas i could with a hand pump siphon.
the gas I pumped out looks clean! (I plan on putting Clean gas back in it and giving it a shot.)
I looked and I have no clue where to install an additional inline filter but there are about 6-8 lines that all look the same and I can't see well enought to tell where each goes/comes from.

How Do i know if the stock filter needs replaced???

If you experienced poor running conditions, it means the internal filters in the carbs need cleaning.

Thanks karl... You always seem to have an anwser!! (this time it was just not the one i wanted to hear..) no one around here works on Seadoos except the dealer and they are month or so out on service!! :( (anyone out there in Southern Oregon knwo how to do this???)

It isn't that bad a job to do yourself...that's why we are here to help out for free... The only thing you need is a manual. In our "Premium Members" section is a manual that shows you exactly what to do. It cost $10.95 for a month. You can either download a manual to read on line or down load it as a PDF and print it off for you own personal and private use. If you have questions we are here to help out. All the moderators here are volunteers because we want to. We get paid nothing to help out. The cost of the manuals help keep the lights on. I bought a paper copy of my manual from my dealer because the forum didn't have it at the time, and it cost me $85.00 I wished the forum did for the $10.95...about 90% of everybody is here to save money, and get advise to get their seadoo's running...

We won't let you down.

I have a service Manual but don't feel comfortable tackling this job without someone who has done it before. My Dealer can't ever give a quote without first having the machine and diagnosing the problem!!!! I AM So frusterated!!

I gotcha, you could try and just do what you can...it won't get worse and you might get lucky by dumping the old fuel. The worse thing that can happen is it runs like crap and you have to nurse it back to the dock...then get the carbs cleaned...who knows you might get lucky...and not have a problem.:)

Personally I don't have that good a luck..

Karl

it only runs like crap under load at 40mph + so i might give it a shot and see what it does...
Seadoo recomended running some Sea form addative thorugh the gas??
I figured it can't hurt but is it worth it???

Just run it...you can buy any product you want, but in the end if the carbs are full of crap ... their full of crap. Just run it an see what happens. Don't waste any more money on additives.

Well they are full of crap!! it didn't run any better (ran awesome for about 30 seconds) and then started bogging down I tried to run through it hoping it would burn off so to speak but no such luck! runs great at an idle and throttles right up but as soon as the nose comes out of the water it bogs down...

Do you think the tank will need to be removed to get all that CRAP out when cleaning out the carbs?? that way it doesn't repeat itself?? If so does the engine need to be pulled to get out that tank???

Should Seadoo be able to tackle this issue without removing the tank???
Any idea how much labor (hours) this jobs sounds like it should be for a seadoo tech ( or at least what they will charge me?)

Thanks a ton guys!!

I'm thinking you could get about 99% of the fuel out of the tank by a siphon. Let the seadoo tech just clean the carbs and get it running. You 'll save a bunch of money. It's peak season now so the dealer will not be nice with pricing. Here techs get $99.00 per hr. it's about 2-3 hrs job....
