Removing supercharger

I am contemplating removing the two superchargers myself and having a shop rebuild them, it would be easier than taking the skis etc. How difficult is it to pull them? looks to me like two hoses and two bolts should do it. Does the unit pull off the shaft after removing the bolts etc.? Somewhat mechanically inclined but have never worked on a charger before. Thanks in advance.

Also why not buy a whole assy which can be had for a little over 700.00 and replace originals, rebuild cost at a dealer is over 600.00. I assume the replacements have the new washers etc.

IMO, doing it yourself is the way to go. Helps you learn the 'doo better and saves money. The rebuilds on these aren't bad at all, neither is removal. There are a bunch of theads on here that can help you out, just search for supercharger rebuild.
 
RXT's rule! :-)

There are 3 bolts which hold the SC onto the engine. You obviously have to remove the coolant tank, the seat bridge, and the hoses from the SC.... less obviously, you'll need to unlatch the straps that hold the muffler in place unclamp the stainless steel exhaust pipe and slide the muffler back about 3 inches to get enough clearance to completely remove the SC from the engine block (there's like 4 inches or so of shaft and gears on the backside of the SC which all have to come out of the engine block.

The hardest part I found was getting that 1 bolt loose for which virtually no wrench can reach... took me a full hour on that 1 SC mounting bolt! There must be a better type of wrench than an endwrench to reach that bolt.... grrrrrr!

Here's the tool you need. It's a GearWrench ratcheting E8/E6 with the head ground down for clearance. With this wrench, that bolt is now the easiest of the three to remove. The complete sc assy can be removed in about 5 minutes.

Sweet! The thumbnail image fails (on my system) but the link does work... thanks for the pic of this wrench! Sure had to grind it down quite far though, but if it works then so be it... I'll definitely get one and do this mod to it! That full hour spent with a standard end-wrench turning that bolt 1/16 turn at a time just about killed me I swear... never ever again! Grrrrrrrr!

I did the same thing with the same wrench and it was fast to remove the bolt. I bought the wrench at napa.
 
I used the same wrench.. Like Ski-d00 said, 5 mins in and out. Actually I think it took all of 20 including opening my beer to do the whole removal on my RXT. Looks way more intimidating than it actually is!!
 
The grinding down of the wrench really helped, removing that one Torx with a non-ratcheting wrench woulda taken forever. I've removed the 3 bolts on my GTX. I'm 99% they are the correct 3 bolts based on the information I've found around the web. Plus all 3 are the same length so I didn't accidentally remove one of the bolts holding the supercharger together. My problem is the supercharger won't budge. I've pushed/pulled/swore and it will not move. Any suggestions.
 
Assuming you removed the correct 3 mounting bolts, it may be stuck in the hole... try grasping it with both hands and turning it side-to-side to see if you can get it moving. You can also try spraying some penetrating lubricant on the backside of the SC to try to get it to release.

If you can't get it to turn in the hole then you may have mistakenly removed a wrong bolt.

Also once you do get it released from the engine, you may find there isn't enough clearance to remove it completely... in which case you'll need to unclamp the SS exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold, unhook the waterbox strap and slide if backwards a couple inches to get enough space to remove the SC. This was the case on my RXT. Getting the strap hooked back on the waterbox after re-installing the SC is a PITA but necessary.
