Questions about replacing gauges

I just bought my first boat (94 Speedster) and I think I'm going to replace some gauges. The fuel gauge is off, speedometer doesn't work, and tach's don't appear to be accurate (one only works occasionally). What all is involved in replacing the gauges? Is it just a simple disconnect and reconnect, or is there serious wiring involved, or could other problems be causing the gauges to work improperly? I'm new to boating and I'm not familiar with .. well, any of this! Thanks,

Jeff

Welcome to the forum Jeff. Usually, the gage connections are just corroded or dirty. You can get these working by disconnecting your plugs, putting a bit of die electric grease in them and snapping them back together.

It's not unusual for the fuel gage to blow the F1 fuse. You can find a sticky in the forum on this topic.

Quickly, go to your gas tank and you'll see a plug with two wires on it. Disconnect this plug. Get a piece of wire, about 3 inches long and strip it on both sides. Using a piece of tin foil will work too. Now, look at the plug that leads back to your fuel gage. There are two pins. Jumper those two pins together with wire or the tin foil. Now, put your lanyard in. IF the gage goes to full, your F1 fuse in the baffle is your problem..........

With the fuel gauge, what I meant by 'off' is that it looks like the needle isn't alligned properly - when its empty, the gauge needle is a half an inch to the left of empty. When it's full, the gauge needle is only at 3/4. Is there a way to reallign it?

What about the speedometer - any idea why it doesn't work? And my tachs act strange - one doesn't always read, it will get stuck on zero and then shoot up to whatever rpm's it is at, get stuck at zero again, etc.
