I am looking at a 2000 Seadoo XP. Well the owner of the boat claims in his ad that 2000 Seadoo XP with shorelander trailer. 951cc motor and 130 horsepower. Motor needs work, great condition otherwise. Will go 65 mph+ when fixed. I have emailed him/her about the ski and see what is wron with it. I just want to get your personal thoughts on the sale. Oh the sale price is 14xx or best offer. THanks will post more info when I get it.

Questions:

1. What is the book value of the boat?
2. What is the value of a rebuilt engine
3. What is the cost of the R&R of said engine

recievd an answer

So the guy emailed me back today and this is what he sad:

Brand new motor put in 3 years ago, but I had it looked at and the crankshaft needs to me realigned by a machinist, new pistons, and rings. Good compression in one of the heads and has no cracks. The motor has less than 20 hours on it.

I don't care if it had 20 minutes on it. I would assume that motor is toast. Let me put a pair of shoes on you. One of them is higher than the other. Now, go run. That is what good compression in one of the heads means. One might be bad. No way I would assume that engine is in good shape. Basically, I would deduct what it costs me for an engine including the R&R.

LOL... Thats what I was thinking. SO anyone know where I can get a motor for this thing? Should I even waste my time. All I am looking for a toy I can go have "fun" with besides my 23' ft charparral. Damm gas guzzler.

If the ski is clean and if the cases of the motor aren't damaged then you should consider it. If the cases were damaged you would probably have too much money in it by the time you were done. Check the fuses and make sure non are blown(can indicate a bad MPEM). Make sure to replace any grey fuel lines if you buy it and rebuild the carbs. Keep in mind there will be lots of misc expenses once you tear into it. Good luck.

I am from michigan orginally but now that I have been in the military its brought me to fort walton beach florida. I am checking out that site and I guess I have some thinking to do. Thanks for your help man.

so....ummmmm I offered the guy 7xx for it and he said he would take it a new motor from SBT is 1495 so the total deal would be 2195...ummmm dont know...

Will go 65+ when fixed?? Of course they will...but at what cost?

Hope it works out for you if you get it.

It's true, you may end up with some more money than the ski might bring on the open market, but you will know exactly what you have. If you bought a used running ski you really wouldn't know anything about that ski. If you are buying this ski to use and enjoy for yourself and an XP suits your needs, the I would go for it. They are frustrating but also fun to work on. I currently have a 98 GTX project that I also bought with a bad motor. The SBT is ready to install once I get the hull clean. Good Luck.

It won't go 65 with an SBT motor in it that's for sure. With a good OEM level rebuild 63 is about the top on one. With an SBT motor I'd expect you to be in the sub 60 range with less accelleration. But hey, you get what you pay for...even in the watercraft service industry.
