I believe that this pump is automatic and searches for water every minute or so....CORRECT????

If so, then when trying test mine if the pump isn't in "search pump mode" during the 33 second " power on mode of the ski"
then will it come on?
Yes, I have water above the black part of the pump.

I've also started the ski with water in it and the pump didn't come on, but that was before I knew it "searched for water".
So it's possible I didn't wait long enough.....(I didn't have the flush hose attached during that 1 test)

They make the 500 pump in a few versions. 25S and 25D for example. The S series is fully automatic where the D version is NOT an automatic pump.

So which do you have?

Those bilge water circulator pumps are supposed to turn on when water is inside the boat, not when the boat is inside the water, I think. I mount them in the bilge. :)

The factory circuit is only on while the engine is running, or for 33 seconds if you press start when the key is off.

your description is accurate, however it relies on the power being on.

put your plugs IN and slowly fill the ski with water from a hose. key off, press the start button. if working, it will shoot water out the back for about 33 seconds.

don't forget to drain the water after testing :)

That's where I was headed next. Bet you don't have power going to it at all times.

Rewire it direct to battery if you can't it to function always.

You will come back to a dead battery though as it cycles.

You could do it through a relay or the fuse box via an ignition hit feed and solve that issue.

Josh, that's what I did and no water was pumped out. The pump intake & discharge tube is not plugged up.
The motor tested fine when connected to a battery.
Power to the pump connector is iffy as mentioned in the first post. I'll have some help on Sunday at the ride maybe spim can help me test the wire. sometimes a third/4th hand comes in handy :)

Yes I just installed one. It will turn on once searching for water when you attach the key(mine does). When the seadoo is running it will search every 2 1/2 minutes for water.

HUH???

CJ:, on the top it says fully automatic, 2 amp fuse and Ignition protected

I wire the automatic circuit right to the battery positive terminal(or equivalent), there are three wires on these type of auto-pumps, two positive and one ground. The one positive wire is constant hot for the automatic function and the other goes to a manual control switch and could be powered off MPEM power if you want, but I wouldn't want it that way unless you're using it as a constant bilgewater "recirculator", ie: I've seen people who submarine their skis constantly just wire it so the bilge pump is always running while the engine is running.....

Tim,

It depends on how you want to use the bilge pump. I have the auto sensing fully automatic models on my ski's, and I occasionally leave my ski's in the water, maybe overnight, sometimes for a few days. So I want the automatic function, but I also want to be able to turn the pump off.

Here's how mine are wired, they are basically connected directly to the battery with a 3 amp. fuse and a toggle switch wired in series. Also if I'm leaving them at the dock at night I connect a battery tender on shore power, if away from the dock I use a solar charger.

Lou, thanks for the idea if I need to rewire it. this is an OEM install.

Check the ground. It's in the ignition box. That's why mine stopped working last time.

great idea but I don't have my manual with me, is it connected to a fuse? or which set of wires is it in the Ignition box?
Let's see if I can read the diagram from this site.
thanks

The ground for that bilge pump on my boat is in the rear e-box, under the single screw in a plastic post there are several ground lugs all tied together.

thanks, My little mini HP laptop running on IE won't allow me to view the diagrams from seadoowarehouse. It stops after clicking on the year of the ski

But since all other stuff works I assume this isn't the problem but I'll check it for just in case, maybe it's grounded by itself in a ski.

Which ski is this on? If it's the 96GTX the only ground in the rear E-box, just un-plug the connector, pull the top off the rear E-box, you'll see the ground, the ground probably needs cleaning up anyway.

Lou, It's on the 99 GSX in Florida

Then the inside of the ignition box is most likely rusty.

It looks pretty clean. I assume you mean the box with the solenoid in it.
The one 15A fuse was a little "salty" on the stems so I cleaned it & the connector with electrical cleaner. I only found 1 fuse in there, is that correct?
