What kind of noise, does it crank well with the spark plugs out and plug wires grounded on the grounding posts or does it still make a noise (grinding or buzzing noise?).

If the noise goes away with light load (plugs out) could just be an electrical issue but if noise remains could be the bendix inside the front stator cover and/or worn starter. Rebuild a worn starter with new brushes and bushing kit, normally an rebuilt OEM starter beats an aftermarket starter b/c many of aftermarket are cheaply made junk.

Were you able to measure cylinder compression, or are you pricing in a reman motor from the beginning?

Its a click and also something running when you hit start but doesnt crank till you keep clicking it. Didn't matter if the plugs were out did the same. The compression was around 132 each cylinder

90 hours is good, you've got plenty remaining (~200 more) if you run fresh fuel in it. It needs a starter solenoid, easy fix under $22.

If it's a DI the electric fuel pump spins up to pressurize the fuel rail before cranking over, so that might explain the electric motor noise you hear. Un related to the no crank issue, must be the starter solenoid causing that.

First things to do are normal maintenance checklist, change jet pump oil, drain stale fuel out of tank and fill with fresh, grease PTO (one or two shots, as per service manual). Clean out wrong oil from oil tank and fill with the correct type, this includes the oil line up to the oil pump and oil strainer as well. Can't mix some oils, they will clot and turn into whale snot, thus starving the engine of lubricant.

BTW, download the BRP factory service manual and use it, it will be your best friend.

Clean RAVE valves too.

BTW, don't try to do too much at once, one thing at a time so if a problem occurs it's easier to backtrack on what went wrong.

BTW, change the starter solenoid right away, repeated bouncing on the start button can damage the MPEM if the solenoid isn't working. The reason is the coil inside the solenoid can do a number on the MPEM. MPEM is voltage sensitive, L= Inductance of solenoid coil, di = current and dt = time thus coil voltage is infinite based on this formula when time t =~0

V=L(di/dt)

Like a rrrrrrggg sound. If the battery is low it will not have enough juice to turn it over that sound will happen. If you are really serious about buying a seadoo, go buy a etx16l agm battery. It will run you about $75-100 but you will most likey need it. As for now it will help you alot in your search. 7/10 times we show up and the battery is junk.

Do yourself a HUGE favor, stay away from the DI's. They are great when running but I would NEVER recommend one with issues as a first doo. It might ruin your entire thoughts on pwcs

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

Thanks i bought it. Replaced starter solenoid and that fixed that. Now the steering cable sleeve is broken so what does replacing the cable take? Thanks. I got it buffed up some looking better and may have figured out some of the running problem

Oh cool, if it's running correctly then I think you'll really like it but you won't know for sure until you back it on the trailer down into the water and run with a loaded jet pump. The 951 pushes my boat pretty good so I can imagine that thing will feel like a rocket.

Steering cables are a snap to replace, they can be expensive though, depending on where you source it. Teleflex makes steering and throttle cables for OEM's, not sure if yours was made by them or not.

Some guys seem to have trouble trying to get to the nut at the jet pump maybe you can slide a socket over the cable end?

Wow came with cable, that's even better! :)

Basically, you'll just need to snake it though the same path it came out while trying not to snag and damage anything along the way, so take your time and be patient, tie wrap other stuff like the harness to get it out of the way and clean it up if necessary, or might be necessary to cut some tie wraps here and there if the harness is tie wrapped to the cable in places. If it looks really tough then maybe you can attach and pull a stout wire through the entire path as you're removing the original.

Damn good looking boat! My fav! Do a search on Groupk site for Mods on that boat. Harry Klemm loves those things.
