Checked compression on my winter project. I remember my 1996 GSX having 150 psi. This 1996 has some mods and aftermarket parts. Is this too high?

I have a 96XP I am working on. It has some upgrades. I sent the engine out for rebuild.... I'm working on too many engines. :) I'm jealous of your hood too LOL If you need any pictures or have questions just ask.

You might have a little oil in the cylinders raising the compression a bit. I wouldn't be concerned with the reading as the engine was obviously running at some point. :) I had 170 on a GTX I built and it was stock.

Thanks for the response. The hood was really rough when I brought it home. Just followed the tips provided on here with the Clorox soft scrub, scotch brite pad, then McGuires rubbing compound. Wasn’t that hard and it turned out great.

I did one ski with the soft scrub and blue scotch-brite but never heard of the rubbing compound over the top. Which grit did you use ?? This is the one I did.1996 XP Body Work (1).JPG

This is what I used. I bought everything at Harbor Freight. The peach colored foam pad to apply the McGuires. I then used another buffer with a cotton pad to polish it to a shine

Quick question. I removed and installed a working info gauge tonight with the homemade pVC tool I saw on this site. Buttoning up the hood and I see this part lying on my bench. Do any of you know what this is and where it goes?

That is some bad azz compound and it ain't cheap either. I bought some a while back. I might give that a try on an old hood. Thanks for sharing.

Picked up a donor ski to steal the VTS system, front storage box, throttle, aftermarket sponsons, extra gauges, good condition seat, pump, and an extra motor. The VTS motor was locked up just like mine. I took off the cap, blew it out, sprayed with PB blaster and let it soak all night. Tonight both are working again. Got the VTS all installed and working. The VTS gauge should work whether they motor is running or not?

Ok. I did some research and if the gauge is good it can be the VTS unit has lost a small magnet on the worm gear.

Negative.... if the magnet is not on their or there is an issue with the pick up the unit will not shut off.
