My 09 rxt-x sat for a month, half a tank of gas... filled it up with new 91 oct and took her out, she idled and ran rough..What should I do ?? Drain the gas and start over ?? Add something to the gas ??
Only change has been in the 40's at night, 50's during the day...

Thanks Has 28 hrs and had the 10 hr service with plugs. Has always ran perfect....

I'm not sure but I dont think gas will go bad in one month. I would add some Marine fuel stabilizer (the green stuff)..then put some fresh plugs in it.

Welcome to the site BTW!!!

I agree... the fuel wouldn't go bad in a month, but if it's going to sit for more than a few weeks... you should put Marine Stay-Bill in the fuel.

The rough engine could be anything. I would start with a fresh set of spark plugs.

Yeah I agree with Doc for sure. Gas wont go bad in a month. During the summer mine sits for a month or 2 and always runs perfect. Plugs would be a good place to start.

Not a gas issue (unless you put bad gas into the tank to begin with... it does happen that gas station tanks sometimes dispense bad fuel!). You might see if you can siphon a little gas out of your tank into a white styro cup and get a good look at it... look for water bubbles or bad colors in the cup of gas. It didn't go bad in your tank though, not nearly enough time has passed!

Next pull your plugs and see if any of them are fouled. That rough idle may be a result of it not firing on 1 of the cylinders. The plugs will tell the story if that's the case.

Let us know what you find out!

I agree with everyone..

The gas didn't go bad by sitting there for 1 month. It's possible that the fuel you added could have been bad, but as everyone else said I would start with the plugs.

Also I would use SeaFoam in your fuel tank, it will stabilize your fuel as well as clean carbon deposits inside your engine.

I run 1 can of SeaFoam in a full tank of fuel ever 3-4 fill up's. In between using SeaFoam if your ski is going to sit for more then a few weeks, then you'll want to add Stabil Marine Formula (Green Stuff).

old gas

Hey Michael...I was going to reply after I changed the plugs which I'm doing some time this morning, it's raining and 58 so I am a bit behind... lol

Thanks :)

I have been running SEAFOAM in the gas. It cleans out the carb really well to. One of my boats was running rough and I poured some in and ran it for a while then let it sit over night and the next day ran it. It ran smooth.

Mine when I got it had a bad Rave valve and I rebuilt it. Then when I was starting it it ran well at idle but when I hit the gas it would bog. I was thinking it was the carbs and took it in. The shop owner down here in Livingston called me back and said it was only the plugs. I would have saved some money if I would have just repalced them because I was thinking that it was clogged carbs due to long down time.

Don't buy the seafoam near the lake because they will charge you about 2 dollars more a can. I think at the lake its around $9 and 7 in town.

I have a 2005 sea doo GTX limited that is running rough between idle and up to ~3k rpm. I just got it out earlier this week and it has been sitting since last summer. Above 3k it runs like new. So far I have added some fresh gas, star-tron fuel stabilizer(also used for winter storage), and injector cleaner. It is running much better but still not the way it should. What do you guys suggest?

Thanks

Dave
