odi rogue grip question

Just installed my 120 mm grips and I had to push my throttle and trim housings in so far that it smashed my bar pad even worse than just the crack it already has across it. How did y'all avoid this? Mine are correct size. 120 mm flanged.

They didn't fit my 1996 GTX all the way either. I just left the outer clamp hanging off the bar not doing anything except holding the ODI cap. Works ok.

It did fine yesterday. I order a black tip cover. From my understanding I can remove the gummy brittle yellow factory cover and put the black tip directly over the styrofoam.
