I am not getting a stream of water out of the tell tale on either of our GTI. When I ran the one on the trailer the other day, no water out of the tell tale but I could see water moving through the tubing. It comes off of the manifold and into a T. The tell tale comes off of the perpendicular fitting on the T and the straight through part of the T continues into a fitting at the exhaust outlet. What about capping off the exhaust outlet side of the T and just having it go right to the tell tale?

NO ! If the system is hooked up properly... it will work. If you divert water, you will overheat something. There is obviously something wrong, and you have plugged up system. That's why the tell-tail is there. If you don't fix the issue properly, you take the chance of killing your engine.

Once you get the water flowing through the tell tale, I have a 96GTI and mine would plug up withing 3" of the end, just clear it with a piece of wire, you might want to re-locate the tell tale. The reason being it's just easier to see. Leave both connections on the Tee fitting just run the hose that come out the back of the ski to the front.

Here's a thread on the subject:

You can get the new part from Dr Honda's website www.a-lmotorsports.com I think it's about $10.00.

Here's a few pics. of my 96GTI, this was the first ski with this mod., when I retire the ski I'm sending the fitting to the Doc Honda museum.

I'm pretty sure the motor was running, the water should come out in either case. The water doesn't come out with a lot of force on this ski, I'm thinking because the hose is split, half the water is diverted to the exhaust outlet to keep it cool.

My 96GSX goes directly from the exhaust manifold to the tell-tale, and would shoot 15', it would spray everyone at the dock, I put a "T" in it so half goes out the original location and half to the relocated fitting.

Okay. Just pulled them out of the garage and ran them both on the hose. Not sure if that is a good indicator in and of itself. No water out of the tell tales on either? I put my fingers into the exhaust and blocked the outlet inside there and it peed with good stream about 6-10 inches on both of them when blocking that outlet so I guess no obstructions. When I put my hand over the exhaust outlet for a second or two it really shot out of the tele tale. And the one ski blew oily crap all over my hand... Lol!

How much pressure are you running the garden hose at? Too low pressure and it will just dribble out of the pisser but too much you could have issues. You could try blowing some air backwards through the system to remove obstructions but again watch the pressure. Sounds like you have a small blockage. Also the fitting at the end of the line where it exits the hull is prone to blockage. Like Dr. Honda said don't take the ski out without resolving this issue. I have seen many skis with sand and shells in the water jackets so it does not take much to plug the small lines and fittings. I have started to run the sea strainer water filters on all my skis for when friends decide to beach them against my wishes. They are only about $20 and require no tools to clean.

Both of my GTI's don't start peeing till around half throttle on the lake, if i'm just putting around it doesn't pee, but as soon as I take off or am cruising at a decent speed it pees just fine, I just turn around once in awhile to look and see if it is still peeing. I didnt think mine were peeing out water either until I looked at it while on the lake.
